Run down a modern R8 Clubby/GTS or the brand spanking new supercharged FPV's and then I might be impressed. The latter will run a 12 second quarter straight out of the box and punch from 80-120km/h in under 3 seconds. Most hot hatches these days will embarrass a NA Zed (and a few TT's for that matter).
Agreed, they've got a shit tonne more power and are actually programmed to use it. In saying that, depending on the driver they wont beat a boosted stock TT ; )
I'd put my money on the local produce. Going to have to do more than boost jets to beat them these days.
meh if you drop even half of the retail price of one of those into a Z or any other turbo car you'll have something more then capable... i respect how far the new ones have come but theyre still garish family sedans...
By that logic if you drop the same money into a sports bike you'll rape lambo's. If you want to compare stock vs stock our beloved Zeds are going to get munched. If you start turning up the wick then it's a different ball game, and the Zed is still going to get munched. Drag cars they aint.
Agreed, but they are all very heavy though. The GTS's are slow overweight pigs at ~1800kg that get stomped by anything FPV offers - the F6 kills it with 2 less cylinders, a lazy turbo and 2.x Litres amount less displacement, the charged GT destroys it in every test, the new Wheels mag says so. All the gadgetry in the world like Launch Control (lame) can't save the GTS from being poor Power to weight is the biggest governor of performance.. I reckon a 250rwkw TT Slicktop Z with sticky tyres would outrun the Aussie produce mentioned, maybe not the new Supercharged GT, not sure on that one, hmm. I wonder when Australia will produce/release a car that's actually exciting to drive and doesn't have the personality of a glass of water.
Wow thought you'd say that same way you can't compare a brand spanking new car with 20 years of R&D to an old sports car. Oh and you dont have to drop any money into a decent sports bike to rape lambos, except to buy the thing...
Agreed on the last point. I think manufacturers have identified that the new car buying market aren't prepared to give up creature comforts and practicality, so the end result is a watered down version of what it could be. Take the FD RX7 compared to the RX8 and the TT 300ZX compared to the 350Z for example. New cars are boring IMO.
Speaking from personal experience, though the driver might have a lot to do with it, a 300zx TT with some mild mods will have no trouble at all keeping up with these new supercharged R8's.
3 weeks ago i left a new black r8 for dead at least 2-3 cars on him he got so cut he wanted to go again saying he couldn't get traction :W: smashed him again. can't have all that power and not know how to play with the throttle! :zlove:

XR6T Drag List OZ300 Drag List Even allowing for the fact that the 300 list is outdated the difference is obvious. A comparison with the street commodore list would be similarly depressing but unfortunately you've got to sign up to get access. With the level of performance the current cars are getting straight out of the factory the disparity between us and them is only going to get worse.
Now I'm not sure here, but am I the only one who bought a Z for they're handling abilities as well? To me it isnt a true race unless the track has a bend or two in it
slick shod drag races with stalled built autos are alot different than a tussle on the street though. Zeds own the highway, they always have. Mine will run CBR600's on the highway all day long.
Mate, I'm not saying they're not theoretically faster I'm just a generalising bastard who thinks that the sort of people buying these cars can't launch them. Heck, I've even beaten a hayabusa in a ve series 2, it shouldn't make sense given the difference in power/weight but if the driver/rider is slow so is the car/bike.
I own a 1991 TT 2+2 with pod and full zorst and i've beaten Ve SS, GTP, FPV Pursuit it definetly comes down to the driver's and pretty much all the owner's of local produce can't drive for sh%t!
Mostly because they're Bogans, or Cashed up Bogans that Buy the HSV's or SS's. Not the smartest cookies, cashed up tradies probably. Lol. I've found the Ford boys aren't as simple minded as the Holden owner.
I also was very surprised at wat my NA 5spd can beat at both rolling and dig starts, worked VN SS, VT SS no idea about mods as he ran home, VZ SVZ 6spd ute, turbo'd Suzuki swift thats just of late and of course smashes most normal p plater cars lol I also agree that the drive has ALOT to do with the out come of a race and health of the motors play a big part also. My mate has a 04' BA Falcon XT, and he beats my 97' N/A. Both are auto's. He just beats me, probably around half a car. We both run stock. Keep in mind he has an extra Litre on me, and I'm down comp in Cyl 1
