Can anyone tell me the difference between and NA and TT exhaust? Somewhere in the back of my mind i have: NA = 2 1/4" TT = 2 1/2" My main question is, would i be able to buy a stock exhaust (cat back) from a TT for my NA? Also would the difference in size effect the performance very much?
yes as long as the TT exhaust bolts onto stock dump pipes, the same TT exhaust will connect directly to the NA exhaust manifold... I know this because in attempt to try and quiten my car down for an EPA inspection, we tried 5 different exhausts on the car, 3 of those were from TT's.. Cheers
wont sit that much lower... if there is only .25" difference then it should only sit about .125" lower if the center lines are the same and if its custom it all depends on where they decided to weld the hooks on how high or low or how much the rubber hangers have weakended..
i have a much larger exhaust than a tt exhaust and the ground clearance on it is manageable, though quite low. .25 to .125 of an inch isn't much
Thanks all, will give it a whirl. Bigbaz, i don't know what you're worrying about... I'll just raise the car 0.3175cm's ... might even be time to raise the car to a more practical height eh.
Well I just meant that if the only difference is .25" in diameter or whatever, then it's hardly worth it. I guess if you got a TT exhaust for $50 then maybe! lol
That's cool then, just making sure it wasn't being done with the impression of adding a gazillion hp!
Wheres chad when you need him he has done alot of research on exhausts, maybe do a search of his last months threads
While doing 300zx lover's NA to TT conversion. The TT exhaust he supplied me to fit was rooted. Full of holes and bad welding. I modified his NA exhaust which by the way WAS THE SAME DIAMETER AS THE TT ONE. It fitted up perfectly with some cutting and welding up the front to fit it to the dumps instead of the manifolds. Cant see any difference TT to NA if fitted correctly.
Something to consider....... it seems during this discussion so far no one has raised the issue of 'back pressure' in a good NA exhaust system??? I don't know the technical aspects of 'why' this is required & to what extent?? maybe someone else can enlighten us all??........BUT I do know that when I had my system fitted it was an important consideration by Mark at Exhaust Tech in Adelaide & he knows his stuff! I've also had other discussions with some of the 'Z gurus'.......& they too confirmed that too much 'flow' in an NA exhaust system has the potential to produce power losses not gains if adequate 'back pressure' is not maintained?? Something to keep in mind perhaps??
Back Pressure It you change the exhaust to breath better you should also tune the car because the reduction in back pressure will cause the engine to flow better and you therefor need more fuel or you may burn an exhaust valve. Some people claim that increased back pressure creates more torque at low RPM's for reasons I don't want to go into.
Yes correct. and.... consider the noise factor. Turbo'd engines don't need as much baffling as an n/a. So if you put a tt exhaust on an n/a it will most likely be very loud. (maybe illegally loud)
So if I was looking to get a higher flowing exhaust for my NA I should wait until I can also get a chipped ecu or equivalent and get a custom tune done at the same time?
Yes If you are gong to make modifications to the car I suggest doing them all at once and getting it tuned that way.
