Well , decided its time for the Plenum and intake to come off. I have to replace my knock sensor and thought i may as well go the whole hog, will replace all hoses i can find , fuel and water. I actually discoverd i have a small crack in the rear heater hardpipe that runs under the intake , so it will be an oportunity to replace it. May as well do the timing belt and tensioners , water pump as well.... . Trying to decide what to do with the Plenum, bead blast to natural aluminium finish OR paint?? Its about time the engine bay got a bit of Bling Where is the best place to purchase the required water and fuel hoses needed? , including the heater hardpipes..
Why not do each intake runner with a different finish(that way, you not only please everyone, but you also have something that is truly unique)?:zlove::zlove:
For your mechanical stuff, Try Caz1 (a member here), then Concept Z Performance, and then Nissan Australia. As for designing your bling, just do your own thing. You'll never please everyone. Base your colour scheme off the colour of the car and consider the available colours of other parts you may buy like silicone vacuum line etc. Get creative.
hey man im gona be doing the same thing within the next few weeks, do you think you can post some pics up on where the knock sensor is located would help out alot cheers
take the engine out if ur going to replace the det sensor. it will cut down alot of ur time, and save ur back otherwise be prepaired for a bitch of a job. everything on the top has to be removed. and everything on the front has to be removed, inc harmonic balancer, cam gears, and banking plates to be able to remove the lower plenum. u can msg tektrader as i think he had a way to remove the lower plenum without taking the stuff from the front of the engine off... check into it. p.s the sensor is located in the valley under the lower plenum.
HMMM very curious on this as well, i would be interested to hear if it is possible to NOT remove the cam gears and backplates to remove the intake manifold....
I suppose the trick would be to remove the idler pulley on the lower intake manifold while the timing belt, etc. is still in place. You'd re-insert the small bolt into the auto tensioner, then remove the idler pulley which sits on the lower intake manifold, then take out the stud for the idler pulley in the lower intake manifold. Just keep some tension on the timing belt when you take the idler pulley off so it doesn't loosen and jump a few teeth, I'd suppose. This should allow you to lift the lower plenum off the heads once all the bolts are undone. Best doing the DET sensor when you're knee-deep doing a 100,000km service and/or replacing the harmonic balancer with a lightweight piece as others have probably said already.
Just an update.... everything is stripped down, knock sensor is exposed and i have to removed the EGR.
not too hard... theres an article in the tech section. disconnect the loom, take off exhaust, relieve fuel pressure, Air con and you'll prob want to take the steering arm ??? apart as that got in the way when i pulled mine out. the only thing that was annoying other then that where the heater hoses behind the engine, need to lever the bloody thing before you can get at them properly.
About 8 hrs, the worst bit was removeing the EGR and associated piping. Re-assembly will be much much easier with the EGR gone..
Nice work, woofer. I had my plenum sand blasted when I last had it off. I'm happy with the way it turned out. Here is a pic for reference:
