Do a compression test. If you are positvie it has spark and fuel, timig or compression are the next checks.
Might be worth taking off the cam covers again too, if you have not played with the timing and you do have positive pressure in the intake manifold maybe something under the cam covers has been disturbed or something has fallen in there while you had them off...
Did you remove the injectors? Maybe ripped/pinched o-rings making it super rich. It would stink of fuel though. It's all quite strange...
found problem i think lol... all the valves are not fully closing so not getting good compression dont know why this has happened i didnt touch anything to do with that area apart from two cam covers.. ALSO i have no oil pressure didnt touch fuel injectors took the cam covers off again nothing has fallen in there...
One tooth wouldn't do that. Maybe 5... But it would only cause them to open/shut at the wrong time. Won't hold them open. Valves not fully closing would do it, but I have absolutely no idea what caused it. Rebuilding lifters can, but you have to remove them to do that Again, weird.
i know its strange as a hell can't work out why it would happen valves are just not closing all the way
If all you did was a plenum pull, I'd suspect injector/coil pack connectors arse about. Must be something simple???
had the mechanic next door come in and cranked car with plenum off and could see valves not closing fully.. that would be great dave "twin terror"
Are the valves hydraulic or adjustable ? . Still doesn't make sense why doing a plenum pull would changed anthing there.Exhaust or inlet not closing and is it both sides not closing ? . You would think that for both side not to be closing would be very weird. If adjustable we can check the gap.Is air coming out the exhaust when cranking?.Is Exhaust bloked for some strange reason.Rag , potato someone playing a joke ?.
Also don't know if you could tell if valves are closing without lifting rocker cover ?Still can't get my head around why pulling plenum would change valves.Where the plugs wet when you pulled them after cranking because hair dryer smell maybe trying to fire without enough fuel.If it,s getting fuel then the plugs would be extremely wet after cranking and not firing so maybe crnk then wip out plugs and see if there wet.Still don't know why valves would change so maybe on wrong track there.
the plugs get wet after cranking a few times. exuast seems to be sucking in instead for pushing air out ? with plenum off can see valves moving up and down and mechanic said they are just not closing all the way he even put his hand on the intake holes with plenum off and they would suck then blow his hand back off pushing the air back up instead of out exuast we noted that when the plenum was all back on the fuel was being pushed back up into the plenum. cant for the life of me work out how or why it has happened
Cranking backwards ? But why. if dc voltage is reversed engine would crank backward but i would exspect it to blow fuses. Is battery connected correctly ?.Get someone to crank and put a timming light on it or just check it is cranking in the right direction as weird as it is this makes more sense than anything as valve opening should not change with plenum pull ?. Its soundind wierder. Dave
Might be onto something. How does the variable valve timing work ?.. i havent read up on it but it appears to be electricaly operated and this changes the valve timing so this maybe the causes. All i have been able to find out so far is there is electric operated solenoids on each side that are some how controled by the e.c.u i think.I will try to read up some more but maybe some can post some info for you.
Can't crank backwards, physically impossible due to the design of the starter. VVT is hydraulic, but electrically operated. You need oil pressure for them to work. It only moves 10-15deg I believe, so not enough to stuff cam timing up like we are getting here.
