P Platers and Zeds

Just want to know if any other P platers out there are getting hammered by the cops about zeds being a prohibited vehicle?

My zed is NA and I got pulled up twice on Friday and both of the cops claimed it was a prohibited vehicle and were quite rude about it also.

First one was an undercover who approached me while i was filling my tank at the service station of all places and inspected my zed. I was quite bemused because in the whole 3 years I have owned the car I have never been inspected. He didn't seem to know very much, asking if my car was a 180 or 200... and then when I said it was a 300 he was like oh well anything v6 with 300 is prohibited - all mercs with 300 are prohibited??? I actually had to explain the difference between a NA and TT zed.

The second and more ruder of the two was a uniformed cop who i think was more annoyed he got a negative alcohol reading and had nothing to bust me over. I explained that the NA zed is fine but the TT is prohibited and pulled out my confirmation email from the RTA. I was told that my email was "expired" (since when does an email have an expiry). he also said a new list had been released prohibiting all zeds (but if that was the case why didn't he do anything about it?) Nothing came out of it in the end - just lead to an argument leading to nowhere beacuse i was never going to acknowledge he was right... just felt like he had some time to waste and was looking for me to crack. I went home and checked on the RTA website and the most recent list is Aug 2008 which only shows TTs.

    Is anyone experiencing similar situations?

Zeds are cop magnets, it also depends on how its presented and how you drive too... Just displaying P plates alone gives the police more reason to want to pull you over, although I do not endorse the act of not displaying your plates at all that is one way to avoid it all together! ;)

Iv never had a problem, mines lowered, with custom LED taillights and Headlights, AM mirrors, coilovers with all the adjustable gear, full exhaust system, black vented bonnet, 10" wide wheels, etc etc

i dont get targeted at all, been pulled over in a group RBT no problems, and pulled over once outside that and its because i had no lights, explained, no problems there either.

I guess im just lucky though

Not as yet but will be on the lookout. I highly doubt they've put NA zeds on the list as the 'paper specs' match those of a bloody 3L V6 1.5tonne Mitsubishi Magna...

It just seemed a bit much when it happened twice in one day... such a waste of my time! I really do not think they know that there is an NA and a TT zed. So if they try to pull the blanket over your eyes I advise that you print out a copy of the most recent list and keep it in your car so you can present it to them.

I really feel sorry for you guys over east with the laws targeted at young drivers. I've never had any troubles with police in my zed. It could have something to do with that fact I didn't always have my P's up. It's obviously not legal and I don't advise in doing so, but I was left alone.

    ----
different story when i was driving my sil80 turbo
    cop pulls me over
"what do we have here its got a 180sx with s15 front end on it hey?
    its different... not bad..

looks around sees all stock piping looks at my air filter box.. proabbly thinking about defecting me

then just goes okay just sit inside your car...

    Good negotiation i guess?

Heh, strange. Always tailed by the cops, never pulled over. Sped past a "speed trap" last night doing 80k's in a 50 zone, though they had already pulled someone over so they just kinda starred at me with the "God-Dammit!" look... lol.

And that is why ive never been pulled over, i doubt i should start using em now, hardly use my car and even when i do its generally for a maccas run. Plus im off my P's next month - yay.

Well it might be an idea to put them on for the next month. How shit would it be to get so close to not ever having to use them again, to get busted and risk being on them for longer.

    Whose Zed... Mine?

I get off my P's end of December... Can't wait!

My Zed is just a stock red zed. haven't done any modifications - waiting till I'm off my P's just to be safe. All I've done is cosmetic upgrades, 2000 spec tailights, clear indicators, zenon headlights and 2000 front bar with lip. I had 19" rims two years ago for about 3 months but took them off beacuse I was scared of getting defected and they weren't entirely safe - were not centred and needed longer studs which I couldn't be bothered with so I'm back on the stock rims.... Going to put GTR R34 rims on soon.

The second cop was pretty much impling that it was my responsibility to keep checking the list and that I wasn't allowed to drive my car and needed an exemption. I said I have paid for my car in full and have not had any problems in the past or received any notice from the RTA. He said the RTA won't send anything it's the drivers responsibility to check the list and I said well they are quick to send me something if they need money aren't they? If my car was in fact prohibited why would they send me my rego papers? He didn't say much to that.

Being a smartass isn't adviseable. Even if you've done nothing wrong, the small inconvenience of being pulled over can easily become a prolonged pain-in-the-ass if you give the cop enough reason.

Anyone know if there is a law against carrying a tape recorder and using it during police "interrogation" on the side of the road? .. Can we issue a disclaimer that conversation will be recorded for training and quality assurance purposes?

Fkn power-tripping pigs deserved to have evidence used against them.

I have no idea but that sort of attitude doesn't really help anyone, best thing you can do is just be nice and polite... of course you'll get the officer whose having a bad night or really is just an a-hole but in general my dealings with police have always been good rather good. Dont be a smartarse and if you're doing nothing wrong u got nothing to worry about...

They really give me the shts.. cant smile and nod when I know theyre obviously retarded and are controlled by a quota figure.. Arent they at the bottom of the law enforcement food chain anyway? Call me cynical.. but I reckon that cops do sht all but maintain profits for patisserie shops.

I was late to a wedding recital because of a punk who felt every need to act like a know-it-all when it was clear that he probably failed Police entrance exams a few times- only to cheat on the last and barely pass.

No citations.. nothing. Just an 1/2 hr worth of egotistical drivel. No morality lesson on speeding or ill-advised mods.. coz they werent applicable. Nothing to go on except for the fact that I was driving an import in the middle of Boganville.

Obviously there are some good cops around.. hiding somewhere under the proverbial rock.. but the police force should enforce mandatory re-screening of employed officers after a certain period of time... something to keep their butts in check. Hell, even a simple IQ test to be sure the extra carbs induced during shifts doesnt go the brain.

Heya.. I use my zed as my daily driver and I drive a 2 seater slick top with a TT bar I've got red p's even though I've been on my green ones for 4 months now ... I live near garden city and drive along Logan road everyday (pass a police station ) whether it be for work or uni and I have only ever been pulled over once for a rbt by an undercover cop car and all I got asked if it was a turbo .. *I said no and offered to lift the hood but he laughed and said he trusted me :):)*

He then looked a my license then my p plates (the red ones which should have been green) and said "do you know the rules of having p2 license?" I responded with what I knew .. He then proceeded to lecture me about having more then 1 person in the car rah rah .. "sir it's a two seater" then he got shitty and left .. That's the only encounter so far .. Just thought I'd share my experience but never had any trouble just that and I've had it for nearly 12 months...*
