Ok, thought I would put this out there as I know I have spoken to some of you about this but I always forget the details. So, I believe that the Melb guys will be leaving on the Tuesday morning with plans to arrive in Warick sometime on thursday?? What about the return?? I have to leave on the Monday morning, and was wondering who else is driving back on the monday.

I haven't structured my plans yet.
I am hoping to leave Tuesday late afternoon/evening rather than morning, I'm keen to keep as much annual leave up my sleeve as I can. Plan may yet change if I am told not to come to work that week. Planning to commence the return drive on the Monday. I expect to be trailering the Z, so will be slower than you, whether we do the return "in convoy" will be your call.

Cheers, Mikey, 'on the road again' :D:D:D.

I was planning on leaving Tuesday morning too but am fairly flexible and happy to do whatever suits everyone as long as we are there in plenty of time to get some practice on the track on friday.

I will probably be staying up there for about a week afterwards and hopefully driving back with anyone else staying on after the event.

OK, our rough plans at the moment are:

Leave Melbourne Tuesday morning and take leisurely drive to Warrick, arriving on Thursday afternoon with plenty of time to unpack and unwind. Friday would hopefully be spent at the track doing a bit of circuit familiarization and then a spot of car cleaning before the weekend kicks off.

Monday we are planning on heading to the Gold Coast for a few days relaxation before making our way home on Thursday morning, arriving in Melbourne on Sunday.

    Hmmmm....

judging from the lack of replies, I guess it will only be the old time forum regulars doing the travel... Oh well.....

but yeah, tuesday morning departure sounds good to me..... and I guess I'll be travelling back on the monday with Peter Black (and who ever else is departing monday morning)...

Sorry Mark, I will be staying on for a while too, Emma's parents live on Mt Tambourine and I have a couple of cousins in Brisbane I should catch up with while I am there. Mikey is coming back on the monday though.

    oh ok.....

yep, my mistake..:) Looks like I'll be coming back with Mikey then..:) I'll be solo on the drive home because Judith has a work conference at the Blue mountains.... so i'll either be dropping her off in sydney on the way through back to home or she'll be catching a flight from queensland. Dont know yet.

    Cheers

While we are on the subject, do we have any specific places decided where we will be staying along the way or just wherever we get to when we are sick of driving for the day?

    I was assuming....

that we would just stop along the way when we got sick of driving.... but I dont know how a good an idea this is as I have never driven to queensland and I dont know what motel / hotel availability is like along the way...

I don't see that being a problem either. I had a holiday late last year doing than and we never had trouble even in pretty minor towns and such.

Don't know what it would be like with a bigger group and I don't know these specific roads but I still think it would be fine.

If I end up leaving later on Tuesday than the rest of the crew, my intentions are to stop in the vicinity of Shepparton (Tues night) and Dubbo (Wed night) for a Thursday evening arrival at the Coachman's Inn. Roughly this works out at:
    Keysborough - Shepparton = 211km estimated.
    Shepparton - Dubbo = 650km estimated.
    Dubbo - Coachman's Inn = 700km estimated.
Total from my work to Coachman's Inn = 1561km according to whereis.com.

Not sure yet whether to book or just take it as it comes. Might book Shep, see how that goes, and work out whether to book the next stop before leaving or not. If I could stretch day 2 to make Gilgandra that might be the go.

I probably need to suck up to Wykked and borrow his trailer for a practice run, never towed a car before, only a baby single axle 6x4. Pete, .......... ;););). Also better think about reserving myself a hire trailer for the trip i guess.

The plan was to play it by ear. If we book into places it locks us in which could be a problem if we want to change it or change is forced upon us.

The trailer is out on loan this weekend but you can borrow it any time after that.
