Disagree, the suede looks awesome, looks like a Lambo Reventon! Has a very racing car feel to it! I'm doing my gf's car in black vinyl and it looks more like a cruiser now. My own car will probably be either suede or late model dark tweed. Thanks for the pic Luis, looks VERY good! Also, is your centre plastic trim bit (the one around the gear stick) brand new? Because it looks it! -Kirill
havent felt it lol...will see after work for ya.... oh and sound quality isnt compromised, sound is clear as
Questions: While we are on the topic of DIY Interior's and what not, maybe this is a good time for those who have done it successfully to drop us newbs a few tips? First attempt i made, i stripped the tweed from teh drivers door and sanded back the crusty old ahdeisive that was one it, then went alone and sprayed it with spray adhesive and let it tack up then put my vinyl on. . .lest to say it doesnt look so great maybe cause i didnt take as much time as this sort of job requires. (i was usuing vinyl) What i basically want to know is when working with Swade is it easier to shape and mould on corners and such than it is with vinyl? and if so any techniques some of you found helpful would be appreciated.
oo i read somewhere to not use sprey.. it doesnt hold as well? this shit i got is gr8, its in a tin from bunnings, surface adheasive, and its thick syrum so it doesnt realy seep through fabric.
remove tweed THOROUGHLY clean all panels from old glue trace tweed onto new material, trace again 20mm outside the line and cut it out there... i went to my local trimmer and asked him for the glue they use, took a large tin/glass with me and they filled it up for me. prob was likie $10-15... used a compressor and gun to spray the glue onto the panel.. leave glue to tack for a lil prob about 10min... while you are letting the glue tack for 10min lay material upside on table and use heat gun and warm it up nicely. evenly and not too close, you want to get it as warm and soft as possible without hurting the material. slow and warm it up evenly... then lay material over panel, pull, squash etc etc... if some parts of the material start going harder again quickly get the heat gun and soften it from the inside again...not too much and then quickly try to continue fightingg with it to all bond with the panel... cut excess material off from rear of panel and glue the material from rear aswelll...
looks even better with the new head unit because it's black. The old siver one was horrible. Garage photo
Question For all of those that have redone the interior - how many of you re-do the other sections of doors / dash. That is, the parts that aren't usually tweed.
Removing the tweed may not be the best advice. I did that, stuffed the job up, took everything to a professional, who sent me home to get the tweed which he stuck back on as the best base for a reupholster. Ended up a brilliant job, stiched compond curves and all
what does a professional reupholster charge ruffly for this to be done and how long does it take them? as i need my car as my daily. cheers
