    no need for that

Plenty of cars in Oz going for much less then that. Especially 280's as the cult thing hasnt hit them yet. Even a few 260's in Perth floating around with lower price tags

    interesting.

So what are they like to work on and how reliable (silly quesion for a 1970's car but anyway)

Coz this idea is tempting. I just LOVE the look of em, and strangly, even beat up they look... "Mad Max"

But my work bunky needs to be a car that will just run, coz it's gonna get hammered with interoffice travel from Wangara to Forrestfield to Balcatta, to Kewdale (of course not in that order) (2 offices North of the river and 2 south, for those not in perth)

So i was just going to buy an old Pulsar or Corolla

But the idea of sitting a classic looking Zed next to my 300ZX in the garage.... DAMN

    *cough*wifes excel gets the drive*cough*

    Yep!
    I had a 1976 260Z 2+2 Auto back in 1979. It was the basis of my on-going love affair with Z cars.:zlove:
It was fun to drive, it turned heads wherever it went(and it was Electric Blue with cream leather seats and trim).:zlove::zlove:

Like ALL sports cars, it had a few minor wrinkles(the worst being a design flaw with the Carbies), but once that was attended to, it was fabulous(I wish I still had it).:zlove::zlove::zlove:

The Carby problem was due to the factory Hitachi side-draught design of the floats, which were positioned North/South and would sink and cut the fuel flow when taking fast right hand bends(usually mid corner), and raise up when taking left hand bends(flooding the engine, also mid corner).:(:(

This made for some interesting moments, when you found yourself without any power, at the precise moment when you desperately wanted some.:biggrin:

I replaced my Hitachi's with three 40mm Dellorto Dual Throat side-draught carbs from a couple of Alfa Romeo GTV's, and a set of extractor exhaust manifolds, and the problem no longer existed. It also improved my fuel consumption, because with six throats(one feeding each cylinder, and each one individually tuned) we got a big boost in performance as well.
    God I loved that car!:zlove::zlove::zlove::zlove:

    Very easy motors

Not much too them and the L28 if you keep it ;) came out in so many cars, parts are cheap and out there everywhere. Hell if you find a nice one and the motor is stuffed or goes on you I got a manual and an auto for sale.

Lots of room to work in the bay too nothing like the Z32

Me and a friend are working on his 260Z right now. He got one shell for $50, rusted ALOT but heaps of bits to salvage and he has a working version for a grand or two. Also rusted but engine and trans are good. We're rebuilding it ATM. Well, I watch mostly haha, not a big fan of sitting on my back for hours scraping off sound deadener.

BTW, the diff from 240-260-280 is basically the engine size. The 280 has a different crank. The rest of the engine is the same as the 260. But the 240Z is the "classic" so to speak. I have a 280ZX service manual in pdf if you end up getting one. It was a pain to track down. Took me a few hours of googling haha.

    1971 240Z

was my pride and joy. I had to get rid of it when my second daughter came along, was bad enough with the baby seat between the two seats and I thought long and hard before getting rid of it. I rebuilt the engine and resprayed in original bitter lemon yellow. the only real problems they have are the half shafts in the rear end they wear and get noisey tried bead blasting the splines and a few other remedies but they were only a temporary fix.

    You wanted info

We got a little carried away with this, but why not? its a good break from the norm.

I got quite a few doco's on Z history and the cars themselves. All the files are on the computer that died and I havent gotten around to put all the HDD's in this one cause I cant find my raid card drivers.

When I do I could send them your way via a P2P or we could meet up and I can pass on a CD. Your call buddy

DOnt mind getting carried away at all. And yeah, stuff on CD would be awsome. The idea of getting a bunky thats also a Zed is now VERY tempting, if I can find one in my budget.

If not then it's a Pulsar or a corolla lol. Prob the rolla as if i got a puslsar, id be tempted to be sad and rice it up lol.
