This thread is just going down the toilet.

The immaturity of some people is pathetic.

Try to keep a good attitude peoples, if you need to whinge or cry just do it in bed in private so the rest of us don't have to listen to it.

Here's some pics for the rest of us:

Here is a snap of the custom fuel tank, looks nice and space efficient :)

Here are some pics of the roll cage, and the lovely blue fuel line that runs down the cabin, no need for fuel temp gauge and sensor when you can just put ur hand on the line and feel how warm it is right? ^^ hehe

Nice looking roll cage and the car looked really great I thought - so nice to see the lovely 300zx on the scene when everyone is racing the predictable - skylines and 180sx's and 1978 suzuki hatchback hahaha

Wish I had seen the zed drift, unfortunately I had to be elsewhere. But would definately pay again to see her next time drift around barbagello track :zlove:

Nice car and great effort PZP for taking care of her while she was in WA!

Refering to my previous post; I wasn't surprised nor impressed by the Driftz not making it out - not with the constant issues on Sat - its not like they want small issues either!

I still don't understand why an untested and previously known unreliable car was taken across Australia. And with the driver having no seat time at all. Yes, its DA and yes Boatwright is making it a big business but the car and teams best interests must be put in front of the DA series.

Seems late on the Sunday afternoon, ego and emotion was all too high after coming all the way across Australia to drive two laps. Better luck next time Scott. Get the car sorted then prove me wrong and an idiot!

    Regards,
The "keyboard warrior" who talked to you face to face late Sunday arvo.

Well at least you got 2 laps in but I agree a long way to go for 2 laps :s I'm sure once everything is sorted everyone will be one big happy family again when the zed owns all :D

Note: Looks like it needs fatter wheels all round - in alll the pics I see they don't fill the guards - who's your tire sponser? Hit em up :D

    My 2 cents

I never thought that this thread would take so many different turns... I'm not impressed with the negativity towards the drift Z, the driver or anyone involved in making a good attempt to get a 300zx out onto the track.

First of all I would like to thank the owners, Sureflow and the other sponsors for putting in the effort and having the balls to get a fairlady into Drift Australia. I find it bloody exciting that "we" have a drift car in a nation wide event with thousands of enthusiasts watching.

What I want to say is yes, the car came over in bad shape. The differential was knackered, there were oil leaks, coolant problems and a head gasket problem however the majority of these issues were not known at the time.

The Z was frantically getting tuned to the wee hours of the morning just before the car was picked up to be transported to WA for its debut in Round 1 of DA.

What was supposed to be a driveshaft centre bearing problem was actually the diff. An incorrect diagnosis yes? This problem became apparent towards the end of the dyno tuning and I was asked to organise a replacement to slot in when it arrived in WA.

The unfortunate turn of events were as follows,

    1. Drift Z was supposed to arrive later Thursday or early Friday at Barbagallo? It didn?t turn up till Friday 4.30ish.
    2. Replacement tailshaft that I supplied did not utilise the stock bolts, the company that supplied the shaft to me did not include them as they were supposed to.
    3. Tailshaft wasn't fitted till Saturday morning as we needed to source new bolts.
    4. On fitting tailshaft, it was apparent that the diff was the problem, so we got the diff out and installed a nismo 2way diff kindly LENT to us by ZWEETT.
    5. The driveline problems were fixed and the Z had her first run? She was overheating and later revealed that the electronic water pump had cracked.
    6. An over night fix was made by Ian and reinstalled on Sunday morning.
    7. I sourced a backup mechanical water pump, belts, etc as a backup plan however on arriving I was informed that the problems were bigger than a water pump failure? The head gasket isn?t doing its job.
    8. Needless to say, that's where our journey finished. I could have leaped into action to re-torque the head gasket as I have been told that it wasn?t done however the day would have flown past and the last thing I would like the spectators to see is a Z engine being ripped apart in the pits.
I think there was a great effort done by everyone who came down to pitch in. It was unfortunate that the car wasn't up to scratch before Round 1 however I do know why the sponsors wanted the car to debut in the first round of DA.

The engine builder IMO should be fired? Get someone who knows Z?s in and out to do the work? Devices such as EWP's are great on paper but really need to be thought out properly before put into place. The diff was unfortunate? It's just one of those things!

I'd like to say thanks to Caz for giving me the opportunity to work on this car. I wish I could do all the mechanical work on it? I had the best weekend! I enjoy getting dirty and love the atmosphere.

I will congratulate the sponsors and the owners for their attempt. The crowd loves seeing the Z32, even if it was parked up. The number of adults and kids with their heads under the bonnet looking at the VG in all her glory was excellent. If only we could get a high mount kit for the snails and a bit of bling to go into the mix? hell the bloody engine builder could have degreased the plenum before installing it! :)

All in all, was a good weekend. Unfortunate turn of events and we weren't quite prepared however there is always Round 2.

A big thanks to Smokin Scottie Gibbs for the good words about the forums and the aus300zx community in all of his interviews. A good choice for a drive in my opinion!

    **end of ranting/raving on!**

Thanks for a balanced, sensible report on the unfortunate debut of DriftZ. I can attest to the rushing around that preceded the transportation of this car to WA.
I have no doubt that the problems will be solved, and we we will all get a chance to cheer for this lone Z32 warrior.
It's a pity that this report wasn't earlier in this thread. It may have dulled the negativity of some other posts.
It may also have stopped me from reacting to that negativity(something I felt I needed to do, but something I would have preferred not to have done):(:zlove::zlove:

I think I'm being misunderstood and because Im not praising the driftz I'm being targetted. I am entitled to my opinion!

For the record: For Scotty and the rest of you: I am not bagging Scotty, his Dad or really the car itself.

What I do question is why was the car shipped to the other side of Australia for a national event when it wasn't running properly (ie known head gasket issue) nor had Scotty had a chance to get any seat time. This did not make any sense and still does not to me - regardless of the "politics" involved in DA.

The car spent the whole weekend trying to get issues sorted out that in all honesty should have been sorted out back at home base.

Consequently, its been a very expensive weekend with very little to show for it. I've had sooo many people tell me over the weekend that the drift z - which is supposed to be "race prepared" proved that zeds are unreliable.

And if you think I'm a hater and that I should go out and do it myself; here's a quick clip of my zed drifting at Barbagallo Raceway -> http://300zx.franzonline.net/Track-2004-Drift.wmv

I don't enter the drift series because in my personal opinion, the zed is one of the hardest cars to drift, there is so much rear end grip you have to hit the corners so much faster to unsettle it. I prefer sprints, tarmac rallies, and hillclimbs hence the Evo!

    Tom Thankyou :zlove: :zlove:

I was so upset to see the harsh words on the forum last night, I want to believe they came from tired disappointment...but the frustration and dissapointment felt by us would be small compared to the team owner and Smokin Scotty :( :( , the last thing they need is negativity from the 300ZX community. You think they don't know all those things ??

I hold you WA guys on a pedestal, Tom, Scotty(who will always be Blackice to me ;) ) and Brad, I have bragged to Greg about how knowledgeable and supportive you are and how willing you were to do all you could for the Drift Z in WA.

Its maybe not my place, but I feel really proud of you all :D :D , not many other cars would have help like that, on the other side of the country, just for the asking. Zedders are different and I love being one of you.

The Drift Zed will be awesome, and there will be 'bling' Tom :p , how could a car Im involved with not have Bling LOL...

I have become very fond of Greg and Matt and the Drift Zed, I have such admiration for their determination and perseverence with this car and Matts self control when he felt what she needed was spark......by way of a match! LOL Zeds certainly test you in ways a V8 just never could

In hindsight I should probably have kept my excitement about this cars maiden run to myself until she had proven herself, but I was just busting to share it  ....

    Caz.. :)

I give up, Lloyd get over yourself and something that happened 2 years ago. You take things too personally when in fact the problems experienced over here with the DriftZ had nothing to do with you and you had nothing to do with trying to fix them. No doubt I will see you have the last word on this none-the-less however.

Great effort by all invloved to try to fix a fingered motor/diff, If we'd known what the engine builders already knew before it had even left the dyno then I'm sure we would not have even bothered.

Tom I think the EWP split from running temps above 120 degrees caused by the blown head gasket, the pressure just split it in two. The overflow tank was non-existent and I don't think the rad cap release the pressure even at an indicated 250 degrees farenheigt. Re-torquing a head gasket that badly blown would not have made much difference however. Not after the way it just pushed coolant out on startup. There was steam literally 3 seconds after initial startup as it was.

The only people that don't have any right of critisism are those that don't try to find a solution in the first place. My critisism is at the engine builder and tuners.

To close on a positive note the rest of the car was standout. The cage, the suspension, the gauges, the brakes , the seats/harnesses were all excellent work. When the driveline is sorted then this should compete very well. The very young (in the ways of the 300ZX) team at this level can only get better.

Franz, this isn't about you.... and no one said you couldnt have an opinion..

So you wouldn't have made the same decision they did...so what?? It wasnt your decision to make.

When I went to a Queensland round of the Drift comp, a prominent WA workshop, had taken a car all the way over and it never even made it off the trailer :(
For me to have gone up to them as a stranger and say why on earth did you bring that Drift car all the way over here when it doesnt go? Im sure they would have told me not at all politely where to go!

    Shit happens :p

Its not Caz - you're right; but when two people have voiced not so favourable opinions or asked questions and then others say why don't the people that are bagging out go out and do it or go play chicken on the road then Im going to pipe up. People always want to hear positive but really don't like negative - even when its given in a non threatening nature.

    Yes, shit happens. :D :D :D

I may not have had anything to do with the problems over there, but I was involved in some small way on this side of the country before it left here. I didn't advertise the fact, nor did I ever expect anything in return for my input(I just did it because I wanted to assist in some way and support the attempt). So when I read your blast at everyone who was involved in sending the car over there, naturally I reacted.

As far as the events of two years ago are concerned, I didn't mention any of the details of that issue(I only drew a comparison between bruised feelings, and knowing how you probably felt as a result), you were the one who felt you needed to fill in the blanks, and cry foul.

I already stated earlier, that I probably over-reacted in the present climate, and I also suggested that this issue should be dropped for the good of all concerned, but you seem to want to keep it going. Why?
