hang hey what is the time frame, cause i just ran into some financial trouble so m might not be able to go ahead with this
before the end of the year. hopefully before xmas. just waiting for a few more numbers.. what time frame is good for you?
just buy a standard 1GHz pc for $50 with drivers RAM and HDD and mount it in you boot.... u'll save heaps of$$$ and have more money for important things like BIGGER TURBOs idea of a carputer is cool though.... does the main board have special anti shock systems??? and where can you buy a optical drive that fits in the pc with skip protection... it mostlikely gonnaa screw up over every bump....
Panasonic DVD Screen Hey im interested in getting one of these carputers but i want to know if theres a way that you can rig them to your in car dvd head units? like i have one of those panasonic double din touch screen dvds that has vehicle dynamics processor and tv etc and i want to know if i could rig up a carputer to it using an auxilary port? thanks
The simple answer is that almost all the car double din touchscreen units DO NOT have the VGA 15pin inputs that allow the computer to display on its screen. there is one but is way up in the $990 + bracket. in the next 12 months we will start to see the units with VGA connectivity as standard, but nor right now.
price isnt so much an issue its making sure it all works in unison. whats the screen you were mentioning that works?
Due to the firewalls in place at work (where I'm at now), I'm unable to patch some links to provide some insight. I believe I've already made a length Car PC post in another thread about this. The CarPc enthusiasts from mp3Car.com have great raves for www.digitalww.com's DWW6500 (?) double din unit. Having a VGA touchscreen (Via usb) car stereo performance (CD/DVD anti-skip), built in amp, am/fm reciever, this unit has excellent resolution by carPC standards, fully intended to be married to a PC yet giving one the ergonomics and functionality of a standard car stereo = easier to operate, manipulate, configure and integrate to whichever PC platform you wish to use. Wheter it be a Mini ITX, ATX, notebook, notepad, etc. Had i not already purchased the 7" Transflective VGA Touchscreen, I would have gone this way first. I may still do it yet and sell my current display. Not to knock the VoomPC, but those units are popping up regularly on the mp3car buy/sell forum all of the time. For those looking for simple connectivity and use of a MB, look to the Epia/Via MB's. Dong, I hate these work firewalls BTW, what does EOI mean???
Seconded! I have been searching for quite a while for a double din DVD with touchscreen that can accept vga in and utilise the touch screen for pc control aswell as dvd. If a unit actually exists that can do this then price is not so important to me (within reason) Any information would be greatly appreciated. Ben
Now that I'm at home I can do this better. You're not the only one. The membership at mp3car.com also was waiting last year with baited breath for a similar item. The guy that owns www.digitalWW.com had finally latched onto a large batch of these last October or so. They've been selling out these as quick as they can get them. But these are the items that people believe is a big step forward for ICE/PC use. Here's a link I refered to earler; http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=257431&highlight=carPC And here's the unit I was talking about; I think anything and everything you wanted to know about double din units for car PC purposes, you'll find in this thread. It's 35 pages long, if that gives you an idea just how popular this subject is. I made a fair number of posts in the earlier pages with my results of research for similar items - single and dual din displays. Here you go, enjoy; http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=79168 John Hmmmm, just got this feeling that I just jacked a GB thread. Was not my intent...... really. Hope I didn't ruffle any feathers.

seems to be 2 by the same manufacturer.. http://www.globalsources.com/gsol/I/In-dash-car/p/sm/1002688756.htm this one is advertised as a 'Car TV' but seems to have a computer built in??
inbuilt pc on that one? hmm, we need a tech-savvy person to figure out if that's the go or not in regards to the other one that doesn't have the inbuilt pc, here is a video a guy made showing it in action: http://www.adam.com.au/bungs/touchscreen.avi it looks pretty cool, and if there's a GB on them, myself and andrew will probably be in for it of course we'd also like to know if the other inbuilt pc one is the goods or not *just another piece of the puzzle coming together *
Both of those units look pretty good, I'd be leaning towards the one without the inbuilt pc cos I have a spare laptop, but having it all in one unit would be pretty handy. Sucks that they don't have pre-outs though. Does anyone know if they play dvd's without a pc on or attached? Thanks Ben
