fk man this upset me heaps reading through the thread havnt seen it before any updates on engine or your not bothering ?
Again Man that's a huge bummer. This is about the fourth time I have read about the idler stud breaking. Take note, this stud should be changed with the 100,00km service or maybe every time you change the cam belt just for peace of mind. How many km had the engine done? Any progress with the engine build?
absolutely...... also had this happen, I was lucky and siting just above idle when it happened and all the cams sprung to their neutral positions before any pistons connected to any valves....... I would never count on that happening again.
Engine Update Block with new forged Piston and rods is back together, Heads have been ported and machined including new Supertech valves and Duel springs, will be picking them up tomorrow. so hopefully back on the road before Xmas. also have new timing belt kit with kevlar belt and you guessed it upgraded Idler pulley studs.
Finally some positive results So finally got the engine finished and back on the dyno for some tuning, after a brief session we where running out of Fuel, running 1150CC injectors with a welbro 460L pump, after some discussion we removed the pump and all seemed OK, then did some voltage checks and voltage under load was around 11.5 to 12v. So we connected up a switch with a good voltage supply and now no more fuel shortage so we could now finish the tune. here are the results Running E85 @ 18psi boost. on a Dynomax. So happy to say that the fuel rails work.
fuel rails Now looking at machining some up from aircraft aluminium, my brother has a section of bar i could use just need the time to machine them up. SS ones I made take to long to fabricate and had a lot of trouble with distortion when welding.
Nice job you have been doing- logical and methodical Do you think its worth ceramic coating the rails?
Ceramic Coating I think it is probably a good idea as it is very hot under there. I was thinking of still making up a few sets out of the stainless as I have the materials and have a work mate who can do a much better job than me with the welding.
Great job Tony Did you ever make up any ali ones? are they better/worse than the ss? I am going to attempt this myself on the motor I am currently building. I am also fitting later model toyota coils for ptu delete and get rid of all the untidy bits on plenum.
