How about just wait till the tech day you are organising and ask the guys there. Most of them will know what to do and also once the initial problems are fixed you'll know what to do next.s

keep your $600 for now put it towards the tech day, get to know the guys that come and help you and also the others in WA and on the forum. I figure if you let them help you in the end the money you spend on your tech day will be the best use of your $600 you can get for now. there are a lot of really great guys here in WA (I realise that goes for all of the Z community as well) and if you treat them well they will be your best asset. I also wish I could join in on the tech days and meet the crew but I am just to far away and not in a position to do so. The few I have met are friendly and keen to help or talk or what ever is needed - make the most of it.

true, is the plenum pull something i could suggest on the tech day or does it take to long to do? sorry if i'm asking too many questions

There ya go -$600 will get you a decent set of sockets, spanners and screw drivers... Maybe even a cheap trolley jack and stands.
I am a cheap skate. Not that I'd pass up the opportunity to drop $600 or way more on tools if I had the chance, but I don't. I've been using supercheap tools for ages. Did an engine conversion with them and while I sometimes had access to my mates good quality tools that made the job so much more comfortable, they weren't usually a necessity, especially for the majority of maintenance style tasks. I've pulled the timing covers and radiator out of the zed and done my brakes in my garage with a few spanners. I actually bought a supercheap tool kit for like $50 just to have in the car and it has received a shitload of use and I've done a lot of work on my zed since I've had it. I also replaced both turbo water lines, which includes bypassing the hard line of the bastard hose, with cheap tools. You can do most (not all, there are bigger jobs where you need good tools and specialty tools) regular maintenance things with a cheap set of tools until you can save for a good set. I'm personally buying this set, laugh all you want, I think it's good value for money http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/226-PCS-..._Parts_Accessories&hash=item589eab134a&_uhb=1 I also intend on buying a sidchrome socket set. You can buy a 3/8 and 1/2" set from supercheap with extensions and most sized sockets for around $100 and they are amazing to use. Then I also intend to buy a set of ratchet spanners. I have a 12 mm one and it makes life much easier whenever I have to get a 12mm bolt
totally agree with this. I have dont heaps of work with all different kinds of tools and quality. supercheap/calibre has been very good and hasnt let me down EVER. I use the calibre sockets with a rattle gun (very high quality neumatic) and they have held up fine. with precision tools get quality or decent.
If you cant afford more than $600 then you shouldnt be driving a Zed... or any old performance sports car for that matter. Get a daily driver, cheaper to run and less hassles for you.
thanks to everyone for the help, i've decided i'm going to make sure the engine is in perfect condition then stick a boost controller in it and keep it that way unitl i have money for a turbo upgrade...
