So, you would pay $50 for a 30 minute taxi fare on New Years eve, or $50 for a family lunch at the local chinese, but you won't pay $50 for a few hundred hours of my time? Interesting. Correct. I am working on a free version right now. The plan is that it will be available on the Android Play store. I don't know if the name is available, but I'm planning on calling it TWD. Bet you can't guess what it does
Personally I think $50 is about right, remember this is going to be a pretty specialised app, it's not as if it going to sell millions of copies. If it sells a few thousand it will be doing well. And the value will far exceed the $50 imo, if it's done well that is
How many Android Apps have you bought for $50 dude? You don't think the people who put their apps out for free or under $5 spent 100 hours making them? Wake up mate.
I'm guessing it will be compatible with pre 96 model ECU's which use the OBD I connection. 96+ use the OBBD II
lol, not sure if that was aimed at me or not, but my answer, none, but that's hardly the point. Most android and ipad apps for that matter sell for what they're worth, nothing  And if you don't think it's worth $50 once it's complete, just don't buy it, simple really...
That's exactly the point. If you're not prepared to drop $50 on a app, what makes you think anyone else would? Especially since there are already free PDA and Notebook programs available...which we've all been using for years now. Good Luck.
For an app that allows me to run guages on a low cost tablet, yes I just might. For all the other rubbish for sale or free on these app stores, no. Is there a comparable app that is currently free or less than $5 that will do what Vader is hoping to do with his?
Can you just plug the Android phone/tablet into ECU Talk ? I want to always have my ECU talk plugged in but if I want to check other diagnostics then i would just plug my phone in . would that work ? BTW dont have an issue with the pricing .
I don't believe there is any hardware that will help you out there. (Happy to be proven wrong - I'm not exactly the expert on all hardware options for all phones and tablets ) Unless you are talking Bluetooth, and if that's the case, you aren't really "just plugging it in".
It should be compatible with all non-US Z32's. AFAIK, it's only the American ones that got OBDII (and even then, I think the connector they used was still the OBDI one, so it was kind of like OBDI.5. Kind of.)
My thoughts are that if it sold 100 I would be doing extremely well. I don't realistically see this as being able to pay any bills or to be the next "killer app".
So your talking about blue tooth . My ECUTalk is already plugged into the ECU diagnostics port . The ECU talk has a USB socket to plug into laptops . I guess I should be able to install consult on a tablet and plug into the ECUtalk screen .
I guess my points were: 1) You need a device with a USB port (not all of them do) 2) The device needs to know how to talk to the ECU Talk over serial If you have both of those, then you need software that can talk to our cars. NikoZ (for Android) works now, but is very basic in the information it provides My software is still in development
When I was going to put a galaxy tab in my Z, i was looking at NikoZ, and the only thing that turned me off it was the lack of a nice GUI. I just want the gauges on screen like all the OBD2 apps offer. For the people complaining about the price, you don't have to buy it. You can go and drop $1000 on your Windows tablet and run it on that. In the end, I'll have mine set up for less than $400, which in reality is less than the price of an ECUtalk, and in car multimedia system.
