Hi guys, I plan on getting the parts needed for my sound system. Im getting 2x Alpine PDX-V9 amps, 2 x Alpine SWX-1243 12" subs, lots of dynamat...plus new door & boot speakers pending if i can find some bose boxes...as well as Alpine ICS-X8 dvd player in a few weeks...im not savvy with all this stuff so it would be getting professionally installed. 1) what is the best wiring i can buy as i dont want to use cheap quality stuff as ive been told wiring matters in sound quality...any popular brands? What should i be looking for? Length? Size? 2) Any better option from Alpine than the one ive listed in your opinion? 3) Any other bits i should be getting that i will be needing or would be a good time to get while im doing my sound system? Capacitor? 4) Also anybody local in VIC that can make me a custom boot setup i have in mind for the zed? Thanks in advance, Abraham
mate for the wire, get stinger.. they are good. also i think u need Capacitor or second battery with your setup. other wise your headlight will be like xmas light when u driving at night.. i got pioneer also alpine on my cars, sound nice.. Alpine head unit single din IVA-D800E, double din IVA-W520EBT Thanks Anthony
My battery isnt an issue for the people that have seen it its like a truck battery lol...as for the capacitor, how many farads should i looking at getting? ive seen 1-2 farads all the way to 50 farads...pricing is about the same with only a little bit difference...so any issues with having the 50 farad capacitor? Im looking at the Cadence CAP50 50 Farad 24V Capacitor I had a chat with Dean, & he highly recommends Kicker wiring kit but ill have a look at stinger too as i like to keep my options open. Anthony which Stinger wiring kit do you use? I had a look & Stinger Sk6201 seems to be the best they offer...while the Kicker 09DCK seems to be the best they offer. I did a bit of a search... StreetWires Power Station PSK04Bi, EFX 10-Gauge Amplifier Wiring Kit, Rockford Fosgate RFK4X, Kicker 09PK4, Legacy LAMP4 Amplifier Installation Kit...they seem to be whats recommended by others... Abraham
mate, i been using bit mix, the power cable from jaycar 0 gauge,2 and for the speaker i have flat wire 12Ga,and power block fuse.. if you have big battery u don't need cap any more...
Im not sure what i should be looking for lol... With the wiring...do i get the wiring kit like Dean said or should i be looking for specific wires for each? With the power cable...what is the 0 guage? Ive seen other guages aswell...which should be the best for my setup? Dean why do you say a capacitor is a waste? I also plan on relocating my battery to the boot & maybe getting a second battery...so then it would be a waste...but if i just had the 1 battery why do you say its a waste? Abraham
I'm just finishing up my sound system install, f/r speakers, two subs, two amps, absolutely no OEM wiring used at all. We installed about 50 meters (yes) of cabling into the car. Bought a whole roll from Bunnings. Would have been more, but I moved my battery to the boot at the same time (next to the amps so a bit less wiring).
Gauge is the thickness of wire. 2 gauge is thicker than 4 gauge, 0 gauge is thicker again. Get the kit, you can buy additional wires if you need them, it all depends on if you want to run new wires to your speakers.
Theo i didnt realise Bunnings sold it...ill go to Masters & Bunnings & have a look...i dont mind having extra wiring left over...so ill try to get around the 50m mark...i do plan on doing the same with the wiring...i plan on having all new wiring to all the speakers, amps & subs. Dean, so I'm assuming the thicker the wiring the better? So ill try to find 0 guage wiring for the power... Power - 0/2guage wiring Amp - ? Subs - ? Do i need seperate wiring for each item or does the kit come with everything? Abraham
Speaker wire is just generic shit that comes on a roll for about 2 bucks a meter. Get 40 meters if you're rewiring ALL of it like I did, you have a 2+0 so you won't need as much as me. Are your amps going in the boot too? If they're not you'll need less.
The amplifiers are going to be on the parcel shelf or they might be put inside the space saver area along with the battery...just depends on which is the cleaner option. So for speaker wire, i dont need to be looking for a specific brand or guage? Are they all the same quality? I plan on getting all the parts needed & all i would need to pay for is installation. Abraham
I'm using 4 gauge, more than enough for mine and your needs. Be aware that most amps will happily accept a 4 gauge wire, but not much more. If i were you, get the wiring kit i told you, and but some additional wire for the speakers. Subs are wired with just speaker wire, i think 12 gauge is what i used.
how do you get 50m of cables? Assuming amps are in the rear Front to Rear at a stretch 6m x 6 Rear to Rear 3m at a stretch x 2 Sig wire 6m + wire 2m if amp and batt is in the boot all thats only 26 if you add up allll the wiring you have.
Dean ill go past JBHifi as you mentioned & have a look at the Kicker kit you told me...for the speaker wire there are 12,14 & 16guage...which is the better one as the pricing is all the same... Abraham
Can't remember what i used, the bigger it is the harder it is to pull through the doors though. Any of those sizes will do your job though man.
I used 20m for just the front two speakers. - Feed from the amp (under passenger seat) to crossovers (under drivers seat) - Crossovers to woofer and tweeter in door, one run for each obviously. That's without accounting for RCA's, remote, power and ground cables.
Cool...so no issue with quality or sound with using a smaller guage wire like 12 guage? As for sound deadening...i was going to use Dynamat but ive heard there are "fake" ones out there & their quality isnt the same as original...are they all the same? I had a look & an alternative is FatMat which is cheaper than Dynamat too...what have others used? Abraham
That included battery relocation to boot (4-5 meters on top) and all amp power cabling/earthing from the boot Two amps to multi output head unit, that's what we used. New wiring going all the way through to doors as well. Every wire going from amp to head unit is about 2.5 meters long and there's quite a few there. We bought 40 meters of speaker wire and ran out
