Bit of an update. At this stage all panels have been blocked down, re-guide coated and ready for wet rubbing, we have so many hours ahead of us doing this lol. In the meantime we've gone back to the engine bay for further smoothing and shaving work. This is the progress of the engine bay. First time we welded up all un-nessasary holes and also some we wont need any longer. Keen onlookers might note we moved the power steering reservoir to where the battery used to live, battery will obviously be moved to the boot. After this was all done I suggested we shave those moulded mounts on the skirt panels for a much cleaner look, would also involve moving the fuse box but well worth the trouble. We also decided to seam weld a few joins just for the fun of it! So we cut out the hi-cas mounting points and the fuse box mounting points Stenciled the holes for the replacement plates Held them in place with magnets while I shaped the metal and made it fit right Tacked and welded them in place with constant shaping Seam welded the radiator support and skirt panels We welded some ground down bolts to the wheel well for the guard liners to mount to, this way we don't have clip heads poking through the engine bay Being ground down Filled them up and started rubbing it to a perfect shape! Filler work was finished tonight and it's all ready to be primed after work tomorrow. Also took a pic of the seats that will be going into the Zed, trim will be the same colour too Thats it till next time.
Yeah mate would love ya to come and have a look, just let dribbles know. Just finished priming the engine bay tonight while dribbles was at work, he hasn't even see this yet so enjoy, came up mint, can't wait to see it painted. Only have to prime the rear bar and targa tops, then the countless hours preping it all
Thanks guys So glad its getting closer to paint, and the aim is still this year. Loving the replies. and looking forward to it going back together for a change, rather than being dismantled to 2 years. And thanks for the updates Wilko (DEVLXR) Seem to have taken over the thread
Yes..OMG, didn't realise you guys had gone to so much work!! That's is just insane, bet it will come up a treat Also, good to meet you finally in person Alex So what colour are you planning on painting it? Or is that a secret
I was thinking a deep candy red But I changed my mind after hearing that its not easy to blend if something have to be repainted, such as a new bar or skirts. Wilko (DEVLXR) showed me a sample card today that was this colour Thinking this, or a slight varient of this. What are your thoughts on the colour? I know its a personal preference... but just ideas
My mates RX8 is the same colour. Looks amazing in the sun, but he has been told the same about it being an incredibly difficult colour to match. It's go so much pearl in it it's incredible to look at. It would be awesome to have a Z in that colour, but the inevitable stone chips from country roads, other traffic and the dings and scratches from normal use would put its toll on the paint.
Someone's signature said something along the lines of: "Not driving your ferrarri is like not having sex with your girlfriend so she is better for her next partner". I hold the same philosophy with my cars (and my girlfriend ).
Haha Mitch i totally agree. However I live in Bendigo, Its a renowned place for 'hooning' and cars and buildings getting damaged by Bendigo's large population of idiots...
Yeah I like that colour..I'd like a really rich blue if I had my zed resprayed...but I'm sticking to black...don't wanna attract too much police attention ...mind you black is such a pain to keep cleaning..even for me lol
Don't have any pics to put up but we are very close to paint now. There's about 2 panels and 2 bumpers to rub down before she hits the booth, motivation is high at this point in time, there's light at the end of the tunnel and let me tell you it's been a damn long tunnel
