Hey guys. I need to get a compression test done, not sure how much a mechanic will charge, but I'm sure it'll be too much. So i'm wondering if anyone in Canberra that has a compression tester and knows how to do it would be willing to give me a hand? I'm more than willing to pay in cash, beers, or both. Cheers, John
mechanic will most likely be between 0.5 and 1 hr labour, maybe a few bucks for new balance pipe o-rings too.
Oh ok. That's not too bad. But to save me the hassle of trying to get the zed to a mechanic, and to give me the chance to learn a bit more, I'd prefer if a forum member could help me out. (it's perfectley drivable, but atm I don't know wat days I'm working until the last minute)
im sure someone can help you, be gentle with coil pack connections. if you lose the balance pipe o rings or they are no good, dont just use sealant, get some new ones. Also, be carefull with the air hose from the balance tube to the air valve at the back, it will most likely be rock hard, try not to crack it
Cheers mate. I've had all that off before, replacing sparkplugs, coilpack connectors, and injector connectors. I'm sure I could work out how to do a comp test myself, but a extra set of experienced hands is always a bonus. Cheers for the speedy replies =]
Buy one yourself. They arent that expensive (under $50). Pretty easy process to do a compression test also. Pull the fuse for the fuel pump and pull all coilpacks first (to prevent firing). Results will vary depending on cold or hot engine test. Cold test results are more important, and a lot easier to perform. Bonus is you will have another "used once a year if lucky, and unable to ever find again tool" to add to the collection..... along with circlip pliers, spring compressors and pulley puller.
Was sure I read somewhere that cold results were more important as they yielded possible explanation for poor cold starting. More proof I dont know everything. Good thing my job description is shorter than a pygmy's......... ..... nose
Righto. Guess I'll buy one then. What sort is best? The type that screws in to the sparkplug hole, or the ones with the rubbe tip that you just hold in there? I'm guessing the screw in type is better. But how do you get it in there? It's a pretty deep hole!
Straight as in doesn't bullshit, actually works the times he claims for, doesn't rip you off, and seems to know his way around zs
I got a compression tester and I am in Queanbeyan and happy to do it for you for a 6 pack of beers. It only takes 20mins. Let me know if you're keen
I'm off work Today Sunday Monday and Tuesday. I am probably going to the moto track on Tues so that is probably no good. As for beers Carlton dry Coronas 4x gold. To be honest so long as it's not light beer you can't really go wrong with me. And I am happy with cheap to. Let me know when is best for you and Pm me. I'll Pm you my address if you like. If you can get around this arvo could even do it today
Sweet. I'm going to skyfire sarvo. Working till six tomorrow, unsure about Monday, I'll find out today if I'm working Monday or not.
Damn. I'm working Monday as well. Then I probly won't have a day off till the following week or something. My work schedule is somewhat of a shitfight at the moment. Do you have somewhere with decent lighting to be able to do it of an evening?
No lighting here Where I am at the moment, and to make it worse I work mostly night shift 630pm to 630am. Horrible!
