Picked up my Zed 7pm Wednesday night, 'bouncing off walls' levels of excited. Black, 2+2, 80k kms on the clock, 5 speed manual, NA, targa... Basically exactly what I was after. Unfortunately, however, my first thread here is a bad one. I'm still fuming about it. Last night when one of my mates went to jump in to come for a ride I heard a CRACK. Turns out the passenger guard had been pushed in at the bottom, and gotten caught behind the front of the door. So now the door only opens around 3 inches. This wasn't there when I got the car, Because I'd taken a few mates for rides the previous night. Does anyone have any temporary fixes until I can get this to a panel beater? And who the hell does this to a car?! F***ing morwell. I'm pretty sure it was kicked or something, despite there being no damage to the paintwork in the area... If not, how else could it have gotten pushed back? Besides that, the car has a few problems that I had a few questions on. The odometer doesn't work - Yes I'm aware how concerning this is, unfortunately didn't notice until after I'd got it. Is this common? I keep hearing some sort of alarm 'pinging' when I get over 105 km/h (Don't flame me, freeways here are 110 km/h). Is there some sort of factory speed alert, or do I need to go searching for an aftermarket one? This is definitely an electronic noise, not a rattle or anything. The power window on the passenger side is extremely slow compared to the drivers one - I'm assuming this just means that the regulator is on it's way out? The electric mirrors can only be operated up and down, neither of them will move side to side. The 'fold in' function works fine though. Anything other problems I should keep an eye out for on the car? Fonzie
Cheers I bought a leather jacket a year or two ago, And when I wore it my mates called me Fonzie... And it stuck! This is what I'm afraid of. I'm about to pull the cluster and have a closer look.
nice get some pics up just curious they look like stillen skirts and not many black zeds with stillen skirts going around. there is one coming up for sale soon so i thought it was that but that guys in south eastern suburbs.
Haha patience is a virtue! I've had this for just shy of 96 hours! And may or may not have already done my first mod... *cough*. Yes they are stillen skirts, But it doesn't have the front or rear bar unfortunately.
And you bought this car registered? You didn't inspect it very well but they're not big things to fix. Make sure you get a local member "know it all" to look over your entire car for the usual preventative maintenance and mods so it doesn't break down in the near future. EDIT: NA with mirrors under the bonnet and Victorian? Something sus there!
Yeah I got it registered. I inspected it the best I could, However I'm not the most experienced and clearly missed a few things. So, any locals want to come have a look at it for me? I never mentioned anything about mirrors under the bonnet, but it does have them. Why's that sus..?
No, seriously, someone tell me what the hell is going on. This bloke had 3 zeds, I believe one was his wife's. The engine, gearbox and drive train seem to be in fantastic condition, but those last few replies are getting me concerned. I took him for somewhat of an enthusiast, and hence a genuine guy. However since purchase I've discovered a power steering leak which appears to be relatively common, the starter motor has temporarily decided not to engage on two occasions, and the big one is the odomoeter not working. Have I bought a lemon??
Don't worry about too much with the car, it belonged to Lowzx. Alot of money and time has been spent on it. There was a falling out with Lowzx and the forum a couple months ago, but his car is very well known and very nice.
Cheers, That has me mildly less concerned.. And I'll put the power steering and starter motor down to wear and tear. But the odometer still has me worried that I got screwed.
You bought the car from an ex-member who was banned for being too outspoken(that shouldn't affect you in any way). If you think a P/S oil leak, a temperamental starter motor and a non-functioning Odometer are signs of having bought a "Lemon", then I'm afraid you are in for a world of pain. Those little faults are absolutely nothing(compared to some of the problems that can jump up and bite you)so remain calm, and learn everything you can about these beautiful automotive thoroughbreds. As for the odometer, there is probably no imported Z32 in Australia that has a genuine odometer reading, learn to accept that, and get on with business. Welcome aboard!
Yeah I'm aware that makes me sound a bit jumpy, but honestly I'm just having teething problems. I'm a young bloke and this car is quite a bit of money to me, So I'm paranoid I've thrown it at something that I'm not going to get any use or a return out of. I spent a bit extra on one I thought was in better condition, I guess if I had've spent less I'd be having far more, and far more serious issues by now. I have this thing where I get keen to mod a car, then stuff breaks and all my motivation goes AWOL. With the Zed I just can't wait to get it fixed so I can drive it!
The odometer is no issue, get i fixed. There is hardly an imported Zed in this country that hasn't had the odo tampered with.
