Just got back from Fibrevision and the word from Brandon is that its going to cost more than 70% of the insured value to fix due to the cost of parts, labour and painting.

Got to chat to the insurance company now.

I placed a call with a couple of wreckers and they thought somewhere abour 1.5 to 2 grand to buy it back from the insurers.

Would like to hear from anyone who has bought their write off's back and how much it cost them and what they had to do as have not been in this situation before.

My Zed has a fair amount of new replacement parts plus aftermarket body and interior plus engine parts which I'm sure could be sold to other Zed owners.

pm jaybo... he got his back as a repairable write off and thus we fixed it...

if you want it for the parts then work out a deal with them.. like if they were paying you out 10k for it.. say 8k and you keep the car.. they often do that to save some money and hassle..

When my Honda prelude was written off, they offered me $7500 and they would pick up the wreck. When I said tht I would like to keep the wreck, they valued the wreck at $1000 and gave me a cheque for $6500.

Its a lot easier for them to leave you with the wreck - saves them on auction fees, tow trucks etc.

Spoke to Fibrevision and HBF today again, HBF are now waiting for Fibrevision to write to them before they can send out their estimator to look at the car.

Brandon at fibrevision is going to state to HBF that the repairs will be more than the insured value of the vehicle.

I cant imagine HBF will want much for the car, the wreckers I spoke to said all they would be interested in would be the engine not the rest of the vehicle.

Hopefully if I can buy it back for a grand or two tops then I can strip and sell the parts and get 4 or 5 back of what I've spent.

It has new sway bars, ceramic coated fuel rails and intake plenum, metalic red intake covers, very nice rims with brand new Hankook Z212 semi slicks, custom bonnet, gonzo panel, new sard fuel pressure reg, almost new radiator plus chrome lower pipe, stillen cold air intake pipes, apexi pod filter, new series 2 PTU, new slotted rotors all round plus I have brand new Ross Harmonic balancer and TTZ HPC Coated headers which were going to be fitted this week.

    hey mate,

will give you a brief account of what happened to me with my zed.

i crashed mine, thought it was the other person's fault because they pulled out in front of me so claimed full responsibility.

they deemed the car a write off and offered to pay me out $10k as it would cost about $8k to fix according to them. The damage was the front passenger corner - headlight, fender, the corner underneath was pushed in, front bumper, reo bar etc. I thought it could be fixed for about $1k.

so the insurance company rang and said $10k pay out, the car is written off, we'll keep it, you get the cheque.

i thought about it, did a ring around on parts available to fix and what i could do myself, rang them back and said how about you pay me out $8k and i get to keep the car. they agreed.

i have fixed the car for approximately $2k, the rest has been spent on parts and a TT engine :D

Jaybo, as you had the car written off and then repaired it afterwards I take it you had to have it re-registered over the pits?

not sure to be honest. the car is still receiving its transplant. i've kept its registration up, so i don't think i have to pass over the pits again.
in saying that i've stopped insurance so when i go to insure again who knows - they may want to see something.

nah its definitely a repairable write off.
it was more a case of the panel beater not being assed to source the parts and the work to do on the corner.

Just spoke to HBF and its going to be written off, just waiting final approval from the assessors now they have got the letter from Fibrevision saying its to costly to repair. The girl at HBF asked if I wanted to keep the car, I said yes and she explained the usual process is they sell it back at 20% of the insured value so about $2000.

Spoke to Fibrevision and they rekon if i can pick up a 300 front end write off and give it to them then they could do the work for about $4000 which should leave me about $2000.

Or I just buy another one maybe a TT this time and transplant some of the parts and sell the rest.

    Decisions decisions.

    Quick Update:

HBF wanted $3000 for the car or it was going to go to the auctions, after considering the amount of money I have spent on parts I have agreed to take it.

One benefit, the assessor is going to leave the car registered for me so when I get it fixed I wont need to take it over the pits which is a nice bonus.

Hopefully should get the cheque within a week.

Now I just need to source a rear end.

What reason did they give for the change in cost?

Although the claims department say there guide is 20% of insured value if the assessor thinks it will get more at auction they can suggest what ever they think they will get for it.

mine could have gone to auction.
would have been interesting to see how much it would have gone for but way too much money had been spent on interior etc.

Is it worth taking the risk and buying it at auction yourself? If no-one is looking for a broken Zed you would be the only bidder and should get it for next to nothing.
