I know this is a bit like closing the gate after the horse has bolted but if possible always try to leave even a small part of your car visible in a truck mirror when behind one. Many trucks have signs on the rear now that say "If you can't see my mirrors, I can't see you". This in fact is quite wrong because as long as a part of your car is outside the extremities of the truck he'll be able to see it in at least one of his mirrors. Keeping a little further back will increase the chances of being seen as well. The driver in question must have been a right airhead to attempt to reverse in what was obviously heavy traffic.
If I was you I would try all of the suggestions above. Security camera footage, cops etc and I wish you luck.

    OK, 1st step...

Ok Fuegodenoche, perform this. it's the only way to catch a criminal.
    1. Document everything that has been done or said, write it in point form in chronological order.
    2. Read it out aloud to yourself as you will be reciting it to officers of the law, so that it's clean, clear, quick, concise. (judges settle everything so don't be afraid of the court if it comes to that)
    3. Do not neglect what was said to you, write down as much as you can remember being told to you. Or use generic statements if you can't recall it verbatim.
If your dated doco clearly shows you are being taken advantage of, and it really shows their methodical criminal behaviour, lack of ethics etc. You must be seen to be a good-little-princess doing everything right. (Which you did). They must be shown to be wicked, cunning, but most of all capable of repeating their actions everytime this happens again.
    4. Write down the name of the officer you speak to etc, basically everyone's names become a bargining chip, evidence and your best form of attack. ALL criminals fear being exposed, and they freak out at clinically recorded evidence.
    5. Know that criminals have zero defence against chronological documentation (photo's are best used too)
    6. Your overall trump card is to SHOW YOU ARE PROACTIVE AT LAW, call up the manager (whoever) say you've spoken with Officer (name) and wish to get his side of the story, (reference what he said to you earlier, so he doesn't invent anything new) note to him that it's all being documented for the next step
    7. Basically be as nice to this manager as you can, say you want to be as fair to him as possible, because all that is said is now evidence. Appologize if you were ever rude to him. Niceness makes them think you are plotting and trully EVIL. (Yes they will go away and call you a blue blooded bitch from hell if you start to do this. Great if you hear it, document it! Judges like slander.) Remember get his full name, and available contact numbers. And any other pinpointing addresses too. Mention that as you are NOT experienced, that you will be relying on what officer (Name) is guiding you to do. If he wants you to do anything, like sign something, don't do it, always contact the officer helping you first.
    8. Additionally, if you are polite and kind to the police and ASK what you should be doing, they are always willing to help or point you in the right direction. If someone says fight it in court first, don't believe it. Find some other officer with experience in hit and runs.
    8. Do a google search for similar situations.

Hope that helps, Best to think of it in this fashion, 'Be diabolically evil and cunning with nothing but a smile, kind words and documentation. You will always win.'

Bought to you by your friendly neighbourhood psychopath!
