hey all well i know this has been discussed to death but i have a big problem with my zed....it doesnt start anymore!!! :(
now this week on thursday on friday morning it had trouble starting straight away,it would only just turn over then it would ifle for a second or two then die of.....and stall....i thought this would probly be the fuel pump not being able to maintain enough fuel pressure so that was first on the replacement list
i replaced the pumpo and still no go...
next i tried ptu cause they are chronic to fail...swapped with a known working one but no go still
anyone give me a clue here ive really got no idea where to go next....

    Just turning

over, if the starter is turning the engine slowly,("just turning over") check the battery is fully charged or holds charge. A dying battery causes all sorts off problems.

i had the EXACT same problem after 100k service finished, reasd through the thread Chrispy made: http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=265144
i hope for your sake it isnt the same problem, because if your can dimple thingy that hold the gear in place has sheared its a massive pita to get to and then some bush mechanics to fix (mines held toghether by a cut up allen key lol)

Are you getting fuel to the cylinders? Could be a stuffed fuel filter. Pull the fuel line off after the fliter and see if it pours out when you prime it.

If the battery is on it's way out that could cause starting issues with a weak spark.

seems to be getting fuel to cylinders, yeah

batery was fine when it gave up the ghost, although after many atempted starts its starting to die,ill put it on charge soon....

    nothing should be wet

but a good thought to check none the less....

i took off my balance pipe once to change spark plugs and on the pass side when i put the balance pipe on the bracket you screw ontop of the pipe i put underneath... big air leak... turned over but didnt start.... i could keep the revs up with the accel.... didnt figure it out till simmo laughed at me lol... anyways... you havnt been playing around with stuff and not putting it back properly like me have you?

So it starts but won't keep idling? Have you checked the IAA system? Loose connector or sticky solenoid will make engine die and not idle.

    Ok, heres what you do.

it really sounds like a spark problem so you have to check a continuity test between the ECU through to the PTU, then from the other side of the PTU through to the coil packs. This might help HERE
As long as you have connectivity between these points, this will pretty much rule out the spark problem.

    Egg ....

Have you cleaned the CTS plug? Incorrect signal will do this, car will fire and stall.
    Hope it's this simple. :)
    Good luck,

thanks but i dont really understand how that works...

what do i test them with......a multi meter?
is there a way i can check the coilpacks aswell?

    Any ECU Error codes ???

    Yes a multimeter...

to test "continuity" between the ECU and the PTU, then on the out side of the PTU to the coilpack connectors.

But if your car simply won't start, then it won't be a matter or 1 or 2 connectors fauty, it will be something more global than that. if you had one or 2 (or even 3) cylinders not firing due to either injectors or coilpacks or output side of the PTU then it would probably still start but just run very rough.
If it simply wont start, then it is more likely something like total spark not reaching plugs or injectors. But i'd still check continuity between the ECU and the PTU just to rule that out.

    no error codes...

    clean code 55

what causes are universal,ie effecting all cylinders

    fuel pump
    fuel filter
fuel leak,or split hose prior to injectors
    fpcu(unsure on this one)
    ptu
    ecu itself(again unsure pretty unlikely)
    crank angle sensor

what else is there cant think of many more

reason i ask is if one coilpack, sparkplug injector or whatever was not working,it would still run just really badly, running on a few less cylinders like benny has said......even if compression was down it would still run i think....
