    Thank you, Evan ....

I have been running 2 Zeds for 9 and 5 years respectively .. with stock standard, well maintained cooling systems .... never an overheating issue ... touch wood .. !!!!

    Well... noble intentions indeed!!!
However, if it only works just as well as stock, then it better be cheaper than stock, look something flasher than stock, or otherwise, why bother with anything but stock...... which is rarely known to fail!!!!!!!!!!!

The Bok Choi stuff usually fulfills the price and appearance criteria..... but performance criteria is often lacking!!!

    Cheers Baz!
This is a common statement from owners of vehicles with unmolested cooling systems!

Seems afterall, Nissan didnt actually do too bad a job of polishing up the cooling turd to begin with! And a turd it is with limited frontal area for incoming air. Even less room for outflowing hot air with a big wide lump of engine hard behind the radiator acting like a bloody great potato in the tailpipe!

However, and its a pretty big however, Nissans glaring omission was using a pathetic, cheap plastic and ally radiator, which is possibly the least efficient setup that can be used, rather than a full brass/copper/unobtanium/whatever the copper alloy used radiator, which for similar volume and area, is circa 30% better efficiency!

The efficiency angle cannot be disputed. Do some research on brass V's ally radiators. Bottom line is that the best ally design can only hope to approach the performance of a brass shitter and you dont often get good design in Bok Choi.
They are indisputably good looking and of course cheaper to produce, but why shortchange at OEM level when cooling these crowded engine bays is already a compromise???

Why they (Nissan) would see the need to save a few Yen per unit, in such a crucial design area on what WAS a prestige and expensive sports car is not likely to be ever known, but, there is little, if any compelling reason to specify an ally radiator other than purely cost-cutting alone.

It never fails to perplex me why manufacturers occasionally insist on taking such glaring shortcuts in such crucial areas.

    YEP ... a mystery .... !!!!

The classic "el cheapo" bit on the radiator has to be the pathetic, plastic pipe on the rad top, driver's side (intake ?) .... goes brittle, cracks, disintegrates ... just rubbish.

    Well there is this.............
In the defense of Industrial Designers, it could be viewed that a really noticeable part like that plastic part near the radiator cap, becoming brittle after a time, could be from age or over heating which is a preferable failure point than somewhere else. A mechanic might look deeper into the cooling system if this failure occurred prematurely (ie, less than 5 years)

Stating the very obvious...... Planned obsolescence is an evil practice purely for the benefit of the manufacturer. A pure and simple money making exercise.

Still perplexes me in an expensive sports car.
