In my mind I think of stock as internals left alone lol.

Agree with Chilli, I too don't care about 1/4 miles

    or if it does 300km+

Anything over Z32 IMHO is WNK.

Plus 10 on this! Never had that "my car's better than yours" dilemma here. At the end of the day, it's MYSELF I'm battling with! "Their car is better than mine!"... LOL

if you get the Z you'll love it.. there ok on the 1/4.. there real power lies in "rolling starts" 2nd or 3rd gear.. nothing will touch you :)

hehe ya. My qtr mile times didnt change at all with the leader gears for some reason. Even the 60ft seemed the same... Weird!

But I reckon you could definately achieve 12's with just stock intercoolers, aftermarket ECU, stock exhaust with restrictors removed, pod and upped boost to 14-15psi... (Oh and a shift kit if you have an auto)

    If not, definately low 13's...

Hardest part is keeping traction on the launch :)

To be honest, the 300zx isnt much when it's stock. But that is due to a gentlemens agreement with the Japanese. Nissan agreed to limit all production cars to 300hp at the time. That meant the 300zx had a whole bunch of bits added to it to make it slower!

Intake: Remove the crappy air box and replace it with a pod filter

Exhaust: Bash out the restrictors - Better yet, get a whole new exhaust with high flow cats

ECU: Get it chipped and tuned

Boost: Up it to 12psi minimum!

Intercoolers: I'd stick with stock mounting location and go bigger IC's - Easier for the Rad to get some air without a big ass FMIC in the way.

    All up -

    Pod filter $30
Exhaust $500 - One available right now in WA or just bash out restrictors - $0
    ECU + Tune - $700 - Or just buy a Generic Tune ECU $300?
Boost controller - Turbosmart Ball and Spring $30
    Intercoolers - $300

You could get away with all the above for as little as $650-$700 and turn the Z into a completely different animal overnight.

The guys on the forum can help you in exchange for beer and sausages! :)

by getting rid of the stock exhaust all together and going aftermarket.

there are no "restrictors", the stock exhaust IS the restrictor.

    Not correct Mike ;)

On the TT exhaust there are restrictors just after the cats...

There are little 'ringlets' near the cats that you can grind/cut/bash out if you are that way inclined...

Can't remember if they are on the front pipes or the cat back tho...

    edit: there you go

You can also take out the OEM dump pipes and bash out the Pre-Catalytic Converters in them too, then put them back in.

So, remove the cats and shove a crowbar up the pipes behind them or what? :p

Gutting your cats yields such a small gain it's not worth the $10k fine when you get done.

Stop messing around with stock exhausts and put the time into researching about going aftermarket later.

Pmack said its the best mod he'd done, or something along those lines.

I have most of a 2.5inch exhaust to go on already but have had to spend $3k in the last two weeks on the engine.

Sorry for spamming too much but does removing these restrictors actually mean gutting the cats? I thought the restrictors were just that, to keep the power level down and not to do with emissions.

Yep restrictors are a seperate thing to the cats... I don't recommend gutting the cats either - did it and then it was smoke city... Not talking about 'pre' cats either as they are US only as Chrispy said...
