    Hi,

New user here, and am considering getting a 300zx.

I have seen specs for 1/4 mile times and 0-100 times vary a lot on the internet with the 300zx, so I'd like to know what cars they compare to such as which Toyotas and other Nissans.

Searched around and seen people have been doing low 13's but this is with mods.
I'm wondering what 1/4 miles were you people able to do on totally stock 300ZX turbo cars Manual and Auto?

    Thanks.

if you want a zed because of its 1/4 mile times dont bother.

its very hard to get into the 11sec bracket which may be alot easier with other cars such as r32 gtr or supra...

they s**t all over Toyotas. Simply look faster when standing still. If you are chasing 1/4 mile times, it will only end in tears and/or poverty. Sit inside a 300ZX and it should be reason enough to buy one. ( a lot less like a cockpit and isolated than the Supra interior). Skylines are like a clitorus..... every *beep beep* has one.

A 300zx is like Kirsty Allen on her stomach- short, phat, well rounded, and nearly impossible to roll over.

that's all well and good but dollar for dollar, u put the same amount into a GTR or supra and it will go harder. either get faster times down the quarter and/or make more power.

it's fair to say many are drawn to the 300ZX for its style rather than looking at it as a absolute performance benchmark.

True but remember a decent skyline costs double what a zed does so all things equal it shouldn't work out that much different. :)

To answer your question, the Z32 is compared most with the Toyota Supra (its nemesis)
Stock for stock they are pretty even so it comes down to taste. However when you get modding, there are MORE bolt on supporing mods for the supra, and working on it is easier/cheaper.

Taking BOTH for a test drive would be the only way to decide for yourself. But test both STOCK.

If 1/4 mile times is all your after, ingor the jap scene altogether. This is Australia, and worse, its WA. There is far more ready support and advice and workshops for traditional aussie mussle and you'll find better bang for buck.

however, that's ONLY in a straight line. The car will look like shit, and not go round bends ;)

If you're thinking of buying a zed, buy it because you are drawn to it, or because you feel passionate about it. Don't worry about how fast it will go or how well it will perform. Because in the end... it'll go as fast as you make it, and perform as well as you'll ever need it to.

I had thought about skylines prior to buying my zeds as well. Although there didn't seem to be any special reason to get a skyline. Really.. they unbelievably common. Performance wise, skylines are easier to make go faster, for less money. BUT.. the zed also has some better performance traits over the skyline. It's lower, it's more aerodynamic and it has thicker wheels to begin with.

Get a car you're passionate about, otherwise you'll question why you're spending money on it. Then that'll lead to you thinking "why didn't I get the other car?"..

300zxs appeal more to me. They are rarer, and look way way better.

Lastly, get what suits what you're after. If you're after a car that will perform and perform again and again, before finally destroying itself in the pursuit of 1/4 times. You may as well do it as cheap as you can. ;) If you're after a great car to drive every day or on special occasions.. go with the zed. Let it grow on you and you'll never go back

planning on some long distance driving?

    go for the zed.

I have driven heaps of different cars. you know that sore tired feeling you get after going for a long drive? (btw i am mid 20s age has nothing to do with it) The Zed is the only car i dont get that feeling. I refuse to drive my Gfs Impreza ('05) to anywhere but work, the pure fact its uncomforable.:zlove:

^listen to the man... if you're after a 1/4 mile weapon however, don't buy a 300, don't buy a skyline and don't even bother with a supra... Buy a goddam xr6 turbo... but where's the fun in that? ;) For a little inspiration check out youtube and the american forums, 300's can really go when modified correctly:D

The first time i saw my Z i thought it was dam sexy. When i sat in it i fell in love. When i drove it i was smiling real wide. After having it a month i hooked uo some guys on this forum and they told me it was on saftey boost and had more to give w.t.f ?.Now it going properly i am it's slave.Every time i start it up and back it out of the garage i feel 20 years younger and hell do i giggle when i exercise the right foot.It comes down to taste and every ones different.Go sit in one then go from there. As for a Z i would say there is one real plus for getting one. This forum. You will get advise when it's needed and even a spare set of hands to help you out also.A top bunch of blokes and the odd lady who are more than happy to go for a cruise. So should you get a Z HELL YES.
What ever you choose good luck.

Probably compares well to the Mitsubishi 3000GT (or GTO) which targeted the 300ZX when being developed. They're a very advanced car, AWD, Twin Turbo 300HP as well, but ~1800kg IIRC thanks to the AWD.
Supra's may well have a good engine and go OK in straights but they don't have half the technology in them that a Z does, and won't handle as well as a Z either, known fact. The inline 6 in the Supra turns it into a bit of a boat regarding handling but it depends where your priorities lie. Drag racing is a bore anyway.. Z > Supra.
Skylines are bland as hell and every Muzza has one, you'd only think of getting a GTR if it were to be a Skyline - after all they are Japanese taxi's. If you don't want to be part of the 'fully sick' crowd and want to own a car that has class and people respect, buy a Z but be prepared to spend more money on maintenance and upgrades since they are much more sophisticated than anything else in it's price range.

supra gto and gtr , none of them are really faster than the other they all respond about the same to mods its just every one tends to compare almost stock zeds to big single turbo gtrs i remmeber a while ago some one posted a comparison of them with the exact same mods and the power was the same just alot more torque in the zed .

xr6 turbos are kinda quick but not as fast as every one pretends the ones running 10s have alot done to them and all done buy work shops that really know what they are doing .remember also they are aussie car crap i own a xr6 at the moment and the quality is terrible. a friend has one that he is hoping will run 9s or 10s , i think he has spent about $50 000 on it now .

if your considering a gtst skyline they are slow and it takes a fair bit of work to get them as quick as any of the other cars above.

If you try comparing a Z32 to the cars you've mentioned, you simply don't know how to assess what constitutes a "Good Car".
A "good car" is a car that makes your heart skip a beat every time you look at it,
it's a car that leaves you sorry the journey has ended too soon,
it's a car that makes other road users turn and watch when you drive past,
it's a car that is far more competent than almost any driver who sits his/her bum in it,
it's a car that makes you feel proud to be it's owner,
It's a car you never need to be forced into driving again, and again, and again.....
If you can get all this from any other car(at anything like the price)then you don't need advice, you need sympathy.....

"The 300ZX Turbo is a dance; it's a song; it's rolling, roaring automotive art.
There is no colour that doesn't suit it. There is no mood-lifting chemical substance it can't replace.
