Dear god just unplug a coil pack and you'll have your lumpy idle

The VG does sound pretty cool running on five, ridiculously slow but sounds cool.

What about a dry sump system to get around the sump problem?

That will sort the hight of the engine out BUT you will more than likely need to loose either the power steering pump or the air conditioning compressor so you have room for the dry sump.

A full custom wet sump will sort it & with slight mods to the sub frame you should be able to keep pwr str & ac.

A VQ37 will go in with the same things but it may sit a long way forward, I prefer to improve on the location of the eng if at all possible when doing swaps.

My latest project has a VK45DD into a D40 Navara & all cylinders are rearwards of the front axle (OK so one and two the spark plugs are but some of the cylinder JUST forward of axle).

If you are going to do it do it right

Dailey Engineering Dry-Sump including 3xscavenge and pressure stage is $6K

Ross Performance in Albury are rumoured to be doing a dry-sump system for the HR series engines as well.

    6k for a dry sump?

I was looking at vq35 supercharger kits last night for 7.
I think id rather throw 6k at a sc.

Surely it would be more budget friendly to fabricate a custom sump. Or modify a vq35 sump? Plus there's already scarce enough space in the bay.

    Maate ...........

The VQ**HR engines with OEM sump all have a massive girdle on the bottom of the block which forms 80% of the sump and there is this tiddly little piece of pressed tin about 10" by 8" which is where the oil drains to and this is under the front of the engine right about where I reckon the 300 x-member is going to be.

If you go dry-sump, you lose the girdle.

If you have never attempted an engine swap before, I'd advise staying away from it, OR getting a 300ZX chassis/empty engine bay and x-member so you can do your research in the real world because the web is a piss-poor place to do this sort of research.

You need to decide you re going to do it and get started, recognizing it could be a 10-12K decision, or leave it to someone else to do the research.

I'm saying this to try and stop you making a big mistake.

I don't think you have the knowledge or capability to complete this job. It will end up being sold off partly finished or seperatel

If you have not done an engine swap before or other major modifications then this is not for you. As said above.

Try something more simple to begin with.

An ls1 with an auto is an achievable goal for most people

I definitely would not be doing the swap myself if its done.

just wanting info on if the swap was viable.

And the answer is no. It's possible but there is so much going against it to make it a good choice

I suppose it comes down also to how much motor you get for your $

if the budget is say.. 15k

a decent VG could be built for that price and easily installed.
for the same price I would be getting a stock VQ installed if I'm lucky, or if the VQ was to be rebuilt the build would go up to 20 - 25k once all installed. but I'd be paying someone else or a shop to do it.

well, I really appreciate all the info in this thread. Food for thought.

Its basically like burning half a years income to even think about it. But imagine owning and driving it

    edit:
    never mind.
