Doubt they'd do it as it is an illegal mod..

In the UK it was legal...

... as long as you didn't spray over the reflectors.

I'm sure this will be the same over here, if you have no reflectors... DANGER!!!

    Adrain,
Man I think there unreal, a simple mod that is still pretty rare and gives a real stealthy look!
I can garentee you that is it illigal tho....... But if you make them black as your running a high risk of cops, but if your gona make it just a couple of shades darker, go for it man! Im definatly interested in doing mine!!
    Best of luck bro!

yeah, just be sure and get it so it's nice and dark even in the sun, then use a few coats of a quality clear coat allowing you to polish it up without removing the tint.

Pull the lights apart and paint the inside, then it will be shiny on the outside

I find the best option is make an call to your local PoLice station and ask, Before i make any mod i call them they tell me yes or no...

I have a 89 300zx with Race Like Decals on it and have done for 3 months and because i call the PoLice every time i make a mode eg: Exurst or Pod things like that i have been Pulled up Once in 9 Months* and they where unable to defect...

*Note - Only Had my Z for 9 Months

don't do it, looks tacky. get clear 2000 spec rear lights if you must change their look otherwise let it be.

If a cop ever told me to get a exhaust noise check and i passed, i'd be sending them the bill for the check and my time. I think that would be only fair =P

ps. I think the smoked look likes hawwwwt ;)

to the guys wanting to tint, just get the genuine 2000 spec lights or leave it alone imo

IM SO bloody tempted to give the tint/spraycan a go.

that photoshop picture is greatt. (i've also got a silver zedd)

i think im gonna pick up another set of lights and try it out aswell, when i have the time

    and also;
if you do get your car spray painted black
it'll be just too much black !, (yes, there is such a thing :p)

Well i have decided not to do it because yes it would be illegal if you do tint the reflectors to the point where they do not reflect light anymore as they should, and because my zed is a daily driver i would run the risk to get pulled over and get defected.
Althought i have been giving a the though of buys 2000spec lights and tinting just the white area, but not very black, just a few shades, as you see on some new cars, just a shade or two, but i just cannot picture how it would look.
For now i have the respray to worry about and tintin is way down the list to think about it.
But for the guys that want to give it a go, you dont have to buy a spare set of backlights, you can purchase tint vinyl that you apply yourself and cut yourself and it looks tops aswell. Then if you do like it and decide to keep it, you can cut around the reflector and peel it off so you dont get defected for having reflectors covered. Here are two websites where you can buy them from, but i am sure any tinting shop could sell you some or even apply it for you.

here's mine from a while ago before polishing and before I messed them up.

I'm in the process of redoing them tonight, this time with the reflector bit untinted.. I can't imagine it'll look as good but what can ya do. I just hope I don't find out it's legal to have them tinted all over, I mean just look at the FD RX7 tails, they're very dark.

No matter, gonna do something different when I get a 2nd set of tails to play with.

I had a bit of a look through Dotars national regulations.. it pretty much says that no lamps can be tinted, it doesn't mention the reflector at all. Considering so many new cars have tinted tails, I'll just have to assume that we don't have to actually follow the rules! Maybe I'll see how my car runs without an exhaust tomorrow.
