Was the first time I had driven that road in years, amazed at the water bridge (since I'm a bridge engineer)

Yeah, mines red with the F40 wing, bomex front, if it was all on the same day then it was probably me. Ty for the comments

This is still on like Donkey Kong. DaveG and I are thinking we'll do a quick run to finalise a route. Car museum sounds like a good stop. Maybe the park or pub at Hastings. Hopefully we'll get up a more exact route by end of Jan.

    Proposed Route and Timings

    Hi everyone,

DaveG and I scoped out a possible route on the weekend. Here's the run as it stands.

My place was gonna be the start point but we decided it's a bit out of the way of any main road and people may not find it easily. New start point is Main St, Mordialloc. There is a service road right next to the Nepean Highway where we can park and get coffees etc. Just near the train station.

If you're coming from the North, I recommend going down Beach Road (starts as Marine Parade in St Kilda) as it's a good cruise down the coast. Nepean Highway or Eastlink will get you there too depending on where you live.

If you're coming from the other side of the Bay (Geelong etc.) via the ferry, we can meet you at around 9:30am at Dromana.

    • 8.30 am - Start from Main St Cafe, Main St, Mordialloc (just off Nepean Highway, near railway station)
    • Cruise south down Nepean Highway to Mornington. 1/2 hour run. Turn right on to Main St Mornington.
    • Drive to the end of Main St and turn left on to the Esplanade. Cruise down the coast
    • Easy trip down the Esplanade to Dromana.
    • At Dromana, hang a left on to McCulloch St. Follow McCulloch under the Mornington Peninsula Freeway and hang a right on to Arthurs Seat Road
    • Arthur's Seat Road is an uphill climb with a few good twisties :br:
    • 9:30am - Stop near the top of Arthur's Seat at either Murray's Lookout or Chapman's Lookout for a few Zed photo opportunities
    • 10am - Coffee at the Arthur's Seat Cafe, toilets and visit to Charlie's Arthur's Seat Auto Museum ($10 entry - a few interesting cars, memorabilia, models, motorbikes etc). If you're not interested in the Musuem the Arthur's Seat Lookout and cafe is a good place to hang out.
    • 11am - Drive Arthur's Seat Road, Red Hill Road, Stanley's Road and Frankston Flinders Road to Hastings.
    • 11:45am - Stop at Fred Smith Reserve for lunch. We can either get something from one of the many cafes or grab a few snags etc. from the supermarket and do a BBQ
    • 1pm - Leave for Cape Shank Lighthouse via Frankston Flinders Road and Boneo Road. A few good straights and bends down this way with 100km/h zones for much of the run.
    • 2:30pm Leave Cape Shank and head to Rye via Limestone, Sandy Road, Truemans Road, Sandy Road, Dundas St and Rye Ocean Beach Road.
    • 3pm - End Run at Rye Pier

I'll plot it on Google Maps when it's working for me again. Didn't have luck with the route planner tonight (arghhhh!!!).

It's a pretty easy cruise. It's a great way to scope out the area if you're looking for weekend getaway ideas too.

Let me know what you think.

    Great work Cru1sr,
Having done the sighting run with Cru1sr on Sunday I gotta say this will be a great run for our cars, the roads are excellent, great mix of quick bits windy mountain and long flowing corners, the road surface is smooth and all the roads are sealed.

The photo opportunities on the way up Arthurs seat will make for some great shots with the Mornington Peninsula Port Phillip Bay making a sensational backdrop, plenty of room for the cars in the provided bays to allow for group and one off shots, If you've got a good camera bring it along.

The Car Museum at $10 is really good value, Hundreds of car Models and plenty of the real ones as well, Model ships, planes, a replica DJR Jim Beam V8 Supercar Lots to see.

The Lunch stop at Hastingst is excellent with undercover free electric BBQ's, Lot's of Tables and a huge Grass area, Maybe more happy snaps of the Zed's. I have a mate whose a Butcher so i'll be supplying the Sausages,Burgers and Bread. Just bring yourself and a drink or anything extra you may want to cook up.

The lookout at Cape Schank lighthouse is a good stop Ocean Views and a short walk to the lighthouse if you want the tour.there's also a little Kiosk and Toilets available.

This will be a great cruise guys, When we did the sighting run we pretty much followed the Times listed and the traffic was very light in fact lots of the run there were no other cars to be seen and by late Feb it will be even quieter. Hope to see plenty of Zedders on the 20th Feb.

Certainly hope you can make it Peter, No doubt if the weather is kind, It will be a ripper day.

I think there's a good Ice Creamery just near Rye Pier too, Nice end to a great day.

The Westernport Festival at Hastings is on that day and might be worth considering. It is a top day with some great cars on show and plenty of other things tp keep the family entertained. It is also the first round of the MSCA sprint series kicking off at Sandown.

Nizmo - What part of Melbourne do you live in? PM me if you like. Just trying to work out if I can come and get you directly or if you can make your way down to the meeting point.

    Cheers.

WYKKED kindly pointed out that the Western Port Festival is on that day.

DAVEG contacted me and proposed that we maybe ditch the car museum and make our way to the festival a bit earlier. That way we can have lunch and look around at the same time. NDSOC will be there.

If anyone else is keen, DAVEG and PHILZ are having brekky in Mordialloc before we leave for Mornington. There's a few good cafes there are the coffee will probably be needed. Brekky will probably start around 7:30am. 8.30am is still the leaving time.

If nizmo_2010 doesn't get his car back together before the run, I'll be picking him up from his place to head to Mordy. Should be good to meet a new Zedder.

This is shaping up to be a ripper cruise, the roads are excellent for our cars and after having spoken to cru1sr yesterday and making the Westernport Festival a major stop on the cruise I think this will really make it something special with several Hot Rod & Custom car clubs and NDSOC displaying there vehicles on the foreshore, Water ski show, and Power Boat Display, along with lots of food vendors and a carnival it will really give us a focal point and great lunch stop for mid cruise. Some great photo opportunities along the way as well (I wish Craig R31Gagz was coming along his super camera skills would make it even better)

As cru1sr said if anyone wants to join us for breakfast in Mordialloc feel free to come along. I'll post venue and time as we get closer. well everything is looking good so lets hope Mother Nature is kind to us on Sunday 20th to cap off what will be a great cruise.

Thanks mate. What actually happened was the organisers of the Western Port Festival found out that our Zed cruise was on the 20th of Feb so they rescheduled their event to coincide with ours.

Now if only Richard Gere (MickW) turned up, Hastings would have the perfect day.
