    Hi everyone,

There was a discussion about doing a cruise around Mornington Peninsula.

We were thinking early February, 2011 one Sunday morning.

I was thinking 8:30am start at my place (Edithvale) for anyone in Melbourne or up North / North West. I'll do a brekky bbq. Snags, eggs, bacon, bread, juice, coffee.

Geelong crew could come over on the ferry from Queenscliff. Melbourne crew and people up North could then meet them at Sorrento. We'd then do Arthurs Seat, then C777. Stop at Red Hill, Hastings or somewhere like that for lunch. It would be a pretty easy going cruise.

I checked with the ferry service. They don't have a problem getting sports cars on and off. From memory, there were a few 911s the last time I caught it. It's a 40 minute trip across the Bay.

Anyone interested? Does it conflict with any other Victorian event?

If people are keen, DaveG and I will do a pre-run in January to get some timings and a more solid route.

    Cheers.

I had already had a route idea and was going to post in the new year. My years of surfing and living on the peninsula rekon this would be a good route.

Start off on the Mornington Peninsula Fwy, head off to Arthurs Seat for the hill climb section.
Take the moutain roads from Arthurs seat over to Shoreham for some high speed curves until Flinders
Take the road from Flinders through Cape Schanck for some brilliant corkscrew twisty's.
From here taket he mountain roads back to Arthurs Seat. Head down the hill climb section back onto the fwy for a few k's.
Head off at Bittern - Dromana Rd for some low speed twistys
Finish the run by cutting back to the fwy along Balnarring Rd for higher speed corners.

Googlemaps rekons 1.5hrs for this run, so could fit in some more down Sorrento way for lunch, also decent lighthouse views at Cape Schanck, could check out the surf beaches at Flinders, should take the golf course road through Flinders and hope no one yells at "FOUR",
I've just picked out what I think are the best roads. Let me know what you think.

Looks good. Anything on that C777 route is guaranteed to be a good drive! We could even incorporate Point Nepean to see where Harold Holt was taken by aliens.....

    Hi Iaam
Yeah that looks pretty similar to what Cru1ser has come up with, I did part of it 2 weeks ago with PhilZ although we did Red Hill and then in the back way to Arthurs seat and came down the mountain, That is a great piece of road, and the section between Flinders & Cape Schanck is Gods own country with beautiful flowing bendy sections.

I think the plan is Cru1ser and I will be doing a pre run to finalise things once enough interest is shown, and i'm sure some of the route you've come up with will feature heavily given the 1.5 hour time frame for your section we could also include the Hasting leg via C777 as cru1ser suggested, there are some nice little picnic places and eateries around there with the beach etc, (Although it will be busy down that way in February) Lunch then on to Flinders, Cape Schanck, Arthurs Seat some of the best cruising roads Victoria has to offer.

Edit: Has anyone driven that Stanleys Rd section between Red hill South and Balnarring, would it be suitable for our cars.????

Definately agree on the Cape Schanck section, brilliant road.

Havn't driven the Stanleys Rd section, have to be careful in that area as some of the roads are dirt, but don't know that one in particular.

The Bittern Dromana Rd/Dunns creek road is also a great drive.

My parents live in Bittern so I know the Hastings area well, a bit bogan central, wouldn't really recommend it for lunch, much nicer in Flinders or down Sorento way. Also no real good roads out Hastings way either.

Frankston Flinders Rd is pretty boring until after Balnarring.

If we are after attention then best would be just cruising down the esplanade from Rye to Sorrento for lunch.

    Cheers

    Hi Iaam
I agree about the esplanade Rye - Sorrento even all the way to Dromana plenty of looks to be had along that section but if we have anyone from Geelong coming over it might be difficult to time it unless we started the cruise at lunch time which is all too late, given that the plan is for the North / East / Sth & Sth East members to meet at cru1sers (Edithvale) for breakfast.

Maybe this run should be pushed back a week or two, with the Goldfields run on the 6th Feb another cruise the very next weekend might be a bit much.

    Yep. Agreed.

    nope ...... dont agree

The more runs we have the better :D

The date you have will suit some people and wont suit others, same rule applies not only to the Goldfields run but any run regardless of the state its in....... some will attend one and have no intention of doing the other.

You can please some of the people some of the time but you cant please all of the people all of the time.

I did think of making a new date for the Goldfields run so it wasnt as close as it is to this run, but why change it, I know there are members that will do both runs and there are members that will choose one over the other, & ofcourse the ones that wont do either ( but they'll sookup about the lack of cruises)

I also have 2 other runs on my list, Zumpstiens and Lorne Lunch, whilst the date for the Lorne Lunch is set (see forum calendar), Zumpstiens isnt as yet if I indeed go ahead with it.

Shifting dates around will only make matters worse and be confusing for members, we only have a few short months of "reasonable weather" in Vic and the xmas/nyear break see's a major chunk of that time made unavailable, you've got a clear w/end....... stick with it ! :D

Yeah i did it along with PhilZ on Thursday (40 Deg Dammmm Hot:eek:) we've had the families camped at Rosebud all week so we figured we'd take off and have a look at possible roads to use.

Cliff (cru1ser) i've sent you a PM with some Ideas, found a good car museum will take around an hour, some great stuff.

Iaam is your car red with a large rear wing, spotted one 3 or 4 times in and around Rosebud. Sweet looking Zed.:zlove:
Definately agree about the Esplanade Mornington to Dromana thru Marthas Cove Great Road.

    Issues with "Martha's Cove"

I have Issues with that Martha's Cove place, we lived in Safety Beach where that is for just over 3 years and the Cove they built is in Safety Beach not Mnt Martha but marketing being what it is they now call it Martha's Cove!
Bruce Rd is actually the boundary line.
It used to be paradise living there until that place was built then all the locals along that strip (General store, Fish n Chip shop, Antique shop etc...) slowly moved away and the place lost all it's character.
That plus all the stuff they ripped out or demolished to build the place, (nature trail etc...)
Co-incidentally, the carpark at the boat ramp is the 1st time I saw the Zed I now own, but bought it from a car yard about 4 yrs later!! :zlove:

Yeah I drove thru there last week and couldn't believe how many mega dollar homes are unoccupied / unfinished, Banks must be getting desperate to offload them now, been a while since it all collapsed.
