Not for me thanks I am after AUS-spec with a warranty from an AUS supplier. These will be too stiff for use on our roads. Also you will have to pay extra for pillowball tops if you buy outside Australia.

yes re-valved and the spring rates are 4kg and 6kg, not 8kg and 7kg which is not suitable for Aussie roads.

    get quality not no name

i agree totally, you get what u pay for, quality costs.1 more thing rob arnt the pillowball far noisier and harsh for the streets than the rubber mount, thats what a few guru's have said ??

Yep that's exactly right. There's more to a coilover than the linnear spring rate and tests have shown HUGE variations in spring rates on cheaper items (D2's and race logic are the worst offenders).

Yeah pillowball are noiser and harder for street use but more precise on a race track. Up to the buyer and no difference in price.

For those with questions about spring rates and valves

Here's a really good website that explains, in laymans term, how your suspension componentry works.

    http://www.carbibles.com/suspension_bible.html#complexunits

For those questioning what is different with AUS and JAP or US-Spec coilovers, the spring rates, which affects how stiff the spring is are difference. The valves, which affect the rebound rate, have also been changed. This is to make the product behave in a way that is more suitable for Australian roads.

    Hope that covers it.

Looking back, I think you've answered this question like 5 times now. Poor guy ;)

I've never been to the US or Japan, does anyone actually know what there roads are like? Are they really all smoother than ours, even in their suburbia?

    i have

much smoother, everything in japan is smoother and very expensive, japs dont settle for second best like we do here, they actually think the people that they vote in power should do what they said they were when going up for election unlike here, but thats another thread :D :D :D :D
ive also lived in mexico for a while, now i would like to see the spring rate on their coilovers:eek:

Rob can you ask your supplier if they can match this price ??

Apparently they can deliver for a cheaper aswell if you choose the seafreight option.

if ya go down the seafreight road its very likely it'll get stung by customs. Definately airfreight mate!

I was under the impression the lower the kg/mm the softer the ride would be, correct?

    Okay all here we go

Yes pillow ball tops can adjust the angle of the coilovers etc and its forward rearward relationship with the wheel only it doesnt alter camber or caster in the true sense. This adjustment is handy when lowering the car so you can setup the vertical position of the coilover properly according to the ride height you set it at.

Pillow ball tops are noiser than rubber mounts as the spring touches the pillow ball top itself which is bolted to the car and hence transfers noise etc. You can wrap the spring in spaghetti tubing as I have done which does limit the noise level somewhat.

The spring rates quoted here are the same as the Jap spec kits The US spec differs and is harder rates at 8 and 7 versus japs spec 6 and 4 (yep got it sorted) so the man upstairs only knows the difference between the jap and aus spec I would say the rebound valving would feature larger flow holes t oaid in quick reactions due to our poorer road conditions but that is an educated guess my contact tried to find out but heard nothing back from Fulcrums (very hush hush)

As far as servicability goes for fulcrum to respring, revalve and rebuild your tein set would cost about $1000 for everything done.
For a minor shock rebuild due to seals etc the charge is $180 per coilover.
If you wish to change the spring rate you need to get the things revalved to suit (hence my purchase of a second set of coilovers for the street in softer settings)

Freight will cost a bit it seems as these things are quite heavy $50 seems to be a really conservative figure and is probably okay for QLD and VIC but WA and SA I would allow a little more in the budget maybe $100 max should be fine.

Thats about it on my front happy shopping guys

    J
Fulcrum SS kits are ADR approved with both rubber and pillowball tops and are leaglly allowed on your car whereas at this point in time Flex kits are illegal.

If you hear back from Fulcrums let us know? If the spring rates are the same and they can't give any difference I think I'd prefer to save $600 and buy them from nengun. Nothing personal rob, just that's a huge saving.

I think the SS through fulcrum are front 6kg / rear 4kg where as the jap ones are 5kg / 4kg. The ones off nengun are $1050k to buy, $1450 shipped. basically a $200 saving and not $600 mate.
