Unbolt the slave cyclinder on the box 2x 14mm bolts, and also remove the starter motor 3x 14 bolts or maybe two I can't remeber... just don't drop it on your head when your working on it underneath...

  2. Benny_C

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

At first you'll loose sleep the night before an engine pull. After half a dosen or so, you'll be sleeping like a baby. lol.

Quick tip. Regardless of what's been said previously, for the sake of 4x 17mm nuts, DO drop the crossmember after you unbolt the 2x 14mm engine mount nuts, (while being pre-tensioned by the engine crane of course). It WILL make for a quicker and less troublesome engine pull & push. That's a fact. ;)
(This is for when removing engine + gearbox connected i will add)

Good luck in your travels my friend, I'm sure it'll all come to gether for you nicely! :zlove:

Thanks Benny. Always looked up to that blue beast of yours! If I could achieve even just 33.333% of what yours has gone through, I'll be over the moon... :zlove:

    Go blue zeds!!!

Big, big thanks to Matt (ZEDBOY) for making this happen! After all the swearing and a very "greasy adventure", you have again proven your worth of receiving heaps of gratitude from me and my blue baby (which has now a very BIG HOLE not only in the heart but in the whole engine bay!). :p

And who could forget the help you offered, Dylan (DJHZEX) and Tien (SKYNRIVER). Great to have you around, guys! Hope I could pay you back sometime in the future...

Thanks as well to Emile (MOULAZX) for lending me their engine hoist, free delivery even! Cheers to your dad as well... :)

And lastly, to Ziggy for dropping by. Your moral support is priceless, mate! Now go buy some load so you can reply to my SMS's, you Ziggy you! :D

    Lookin' good mate.
For re-installation, try removing the front bar for more room to manouvre. The plastic engine fan can be removed from the Water pump pullet with 4x10mm nuts, reinstall them to stop the pulley from shifting.

Is that a crack in the engine crane boom?! Bugger me if it is... serious business!

Thanks Mitch! Realised better to take the front bar off for easier access. And I started to take the fan of but stopped in the middle of the process when I lost one of the tools. #*?#?*%

And NO, that wasn't a crack. T'was the bolt holding the crane boom in place sliding out of its hole! We all paused for a while thinking of what to do! Neurons weren't working for a few seconds. Could have been tragic! Ran for a spare piece of metal to slide in through the other end. Whew, what a team effort!!!

Hats off to these guys who helped... :)

I use a ratchet spanner to get the nut undone, then crank the engine for a split second to rotate it to the next spot. Can be done with a ring spanner, but takes a lot longer.

As for the front bar, the best tool for that job is a 150mm long metal flex attachment for a 1/8th drive ratchet or screwdriver fitting. Allows the tricky bolts up and behind the fog lights and side indicators to be got at easy. 10 minute job max (ask a-briz-Z at the last tech day ;-) )

It's looking real good so far mate. Be careful of that crane on the roof though during installation :zlove:

Wheres the obligatory picture of you standing in the empty engine bay while someone else snaps off the picture?!

So disappointed in you. But fear not, engine is still out, you still have a chance man!

Hehe, nice work mate. Whats with all that oil on the floor? Didn't you take the oil out?

I told them that will grab a snap with us four inside. But didn't happen. Was too excited
to see the engine out and finally calling it a day. I'll take a photo this week with me and Aaron inside (can't let Rose go in the bay!)... :p

That wasn't oil. That was Matt's blood from all the hard work...

Sorry for damaging your number plate champ..

Deffinatley should have pull the bar off...honestly thought we would have had the clearance... Don't know how you feel but my back and shoulders feel stiff as a board haha.

    Good luck with it all

    P.s. *don't forget new engine mounts* ;)

    Not much Matt

Hope to get a day this week to finish it, power steering, air con (yes still running it) alternator, radiator etc, then turn the key.:)

Nah man, all good bout the plates. I was actually hoping that would happen so I could show the missus and hopefully get that extra dosh allowance I've been wanting to change plates to a personalized set! LOL.

As for your back, I know a good Physio around my area who wouldn't charge you anything... *wink wink*

Will grab a pair of mounts soon. Something that will hold themselves into place. :p

By the way, so I'll be needing 80mm M10 bolts for the engine stand? How many? And I'm still contemplating about the TT to NA steering conversion. Kinda like the HICAS... :)

Me too! Keen to reunite with your beautiful beast, Ron! Let us know. We have to catch up one time...

Yer only 4 mounting points on the stand, just line up a bolt through one of the mounting points on the stand and bolt it up to the block... just so you know how long your bolts will have to be....few variances with stands.

    Scrap HICAS!;)

Got the engine mounted already. I used 4 x M10's (100mm). Discovered that I had to use washers for the lower left mounting point as the bolt was too long, it would hit the oil sump. But all's good in the end.

Started disconnecting the gearbox and clutch. Old clutch says "Exedy Unity Clutch". I've got another Exedy heavy duty organic clutch ready to go in. On the other hand, the old one looks like it still got plenty of meat on it.

Jobs on the list for the next few days:

    change timing belt
    change water pump
clean alternator (how can this possibly be done safely?)
    clean PCV valves
replace PCV hose (anyone got a spare?)

This learning process is soooooo interesting! All these sleepless nights researching on bits and bobs will somehow pay off. There's a light at the end of the tunnel, so they say... :)

Will be doing the turbos next once these are accomplished. Anyone's free to come over on Friday as I took a day off work to spend time with the engine.

    Happy zedding everyone...
