It's that time of a zed's life where "biting the bullet" is an understatement to describe the process of pulling the engine out. I've never thought of undergoing this stage soon... but what has to be done has to be done! My passenger side turbo was in question as to how its integrity is, hence the TRANSPLANT. Big thanks to Matt (zedboy) for helping me out with this tedious process. It's getting more and more exciting as days pass by. 1 more week to go...

    the BAD BOYS...

as compared to a stock auto hair dryer...

I highly advice doing this especially for first timers like me...

I decided to label even the most obvious 'coz I know I'll be burning heaps of neurons during the process...

and I'll be boxing the parts according to groups (shown here are the members of the "bling" team)...

hey Matt, are those the two bronze bolts that you were talking about (apparently the plenum supports)?

I'll be updating this thread every now and then for the purpose of serving as a reference for future engine pulls, documentation of what will be done to my engine (for my own future reference) and raising questions with regards to the said "transplant procedure".

First question: do I need to pull the spark plugs out to make it easier hooking the upper plenum during the engine pull itself?

And are those two bronze bolts the plenum supports that will be needed for the upper plenum to pull the whole engine out when strapped?!

yea just leave them bolted up to give it the extra support. ive puled motors with them removed though.

Do I need an engine load leveler to make the pulling of the engine out easier and balanced?

    Not if you're a real man ;)

I've never bothered with one and I've done heaps of engines.

remember if your taking motor out and leaving box in you will need to drop your xmember otherwise your sump wont clear it when you do the pull.

Do your turbos need adapters for the intake or do the bolt holes face the right way?

They probably bolt on straight to the intakes. Not 100% sure though. I'll keep this thread updated...

Looking good so far Arvin... something came to mind today for you to do but for the life of me I can't remeber:eek:

Also why do people drop the crossmember to clear the sump??? I pulled out my TT motor and man gearbox together and cleared the sump perfectly.

Haven't put it in yet but I don't see the need to drop the crossmember putting it back in either.

    egghau SHIFT_what again?

I think was mentioned that when the gearbox was left in the xmember needs to be dropped, as you took the gearbox out as well . . . .

Ahh my bad....sure I have seen in other threads people suggesting to drop the crossmember...

Arvin - Either way get your ass up at 8 n I'll be there at 8.30! Engine will be out before 12;):zlove:

I don't think I'll catch some sleep the night before. Will just stay in the garage the whole time... just knock on the garage door and I'll be there. With eye bags and what not... :p
