    Hey guys,
I am just trying to get these SMIC's on that i got from japtek. Driver side = no dramas.
Passenger side, it's got those small pipes that stick out and block the taller intercooler from fitting in. I would think this is a common 'problem' with installing these. But can someone tell me the solution please. I'll try and grab a photo in a few minutes.

    Cheers guys

These are in the way. Stick out into the area the SMIC needs to sit. Also I'm worried they will crack/split/whatever if i try to bend or wack them.

You can get a smaller r33 one or remove it all together

That's the charcoal canister. Can be replaced with one from a S13 or R33, they are much smaller. That's what I did.

The lines can be bent gently if you need extra room.

I would just replace each pipe with a new shorter rubber hose(and remove the looped pipe sections altogether).
Do them one at a time so you don't get mixed up about which goes where.:zlove:

    Ok then, next question.
removing it: Any problem with doing this. Just yank it out or extra things/steps required
Get a Diff one: Any one got one? haha Or know bets pleace really to look? Would think wreckers

I think this would be my best bet as i need my car running again really soon rather then later. haha
Can i just ask what is the Charcoal canister? and if I take those hoses off, am i going to get sprayed in the face, or anything I need to know?

oh right forgot about that little part. The charcoal canister is a fuel vapour storage device.

You can pull it off, though your car will stink like petrol all of the time. I will have a R33 one for sale in ~4 weeks, but you probably can't wait that long :p

    thanks for the offer though
We are trying to replace the piping with something little more flexible to reposition a bit
Will take a photo and post for future reference once its done :)

    or...

you can pull the canister, remove the hard lines leaving just the rubber hose at the rear from the tank, tuck (cable tie) the hose in a hard to see, out of the way place, I have no issues with smell, the vapour disapates quickly before you notice any smells.

Have a good search as there was a great post with picture about how you need to mod it to fit. I think it was linked to a for sale thread a year or 2 ago.
Looked an easy enough mod to do.

Sorry for raising this thread from the dead but I plan to do this to my car next weekend if its not raining to fit my new Z1 BA SMICS which should arrive next week. (I already have the original Z1 SMICs, just upgrading to the bigger size).

Can anyone tell me what diameter hose I need to use?

(Asking so I can buy before I pull the front bar off so I'm ready to hit the ground running once I start - took me ages to do this last time).

I pulled mine out and never smell fumes. I haven't heard of anyone who's actually run without a carbon canister complaining about it.
