The Riverland Auto Expo is coming up again this year on November 6th and 7th. I thought I would get the feelers out early to drum up some interest. This year its in Renmark, S.A. For those that dont know, its a 2 day event featuring all types of cars from hot rods to jap imports, and some wacky but cool stuff in between. The Saturday is the Show and Shine and the sunday is usually either a cruise or some other event (will tell more when I have more details).

Although its in S.A there is a group of us Vic folk who go every year. Its a great 2 days, even just to lounge around in the sun and drink beer with friends :)

Anyway, I will post up more details as I get them, but it would be great if we could get more zeds their to really dominate the jap import scene....

    Either way, I'm going!!

    Happy zedding

    All booked :)

Accommodation booked, and entry form sent in.

If we get some good numbers we will have to consider a theme for this years display.

I could ask you the same question?????? Most likely we will just bring the zed. I haven't done enough work on the Mustang to justify taking the second car.

Jen had talked about having a "Beach" theme. Just need to sort out some sand, beach balls and bikinis for the girls.

    TT

Unfortunately, the days of the NA at the Riverland auto expo are over :( So now its time for the TT to shine :) But it wont be as pretty as the NA by November, but give me time, and it will all be nicely blinged up for next year :)

    Ummmmmm.....

beach scene sounds interesting, but you have zero chance of getting Judith in a bikini considering that she will be 7 months pregnant in November :)

    accommodation

If you're thinking of going, you need to act fast if you want to stay at the Renmark Big4 caravan park. After booking our accomodation last night, it seems that accommodation is booking out fast.

RedZedMikey RZM should now be DZM

Pete, working on the premise that RZ2 won't be a goer by this, my offer to tow the Muzzy still stands. If you don't want to take her and RZ2 doesn't make the trip, then I'll probably be an attendee only, not showing the XR6.

    Hmmm... Mikey....

Assuming your plans with pete dont go ahead (ie, towing the stang), and assuming I still have my NA zed in November, I'd be more than happy for you to drive my NA and put it on display.... assuming you can assimilate from driving a TT to an NA :) Anyway, the offer is there...

    A fair warning too!

The Skyline crew are apparently turning up in numbers this year. The Zedders just scraped in by the skin of their teeth last year for the best Club Display. This year's will have to be a big effort to have a realistic chance. Remember - a Club Display trophy is not about the quality of the cars (but they need to be reasonable) - it's about the car layout, car information, club information, and a good theme carried across the whole display. That might mean that Jedi and Pete need to wear bikinis too!

RENZED - you were sooo close last year! If you're coming along, don't be discouraged. I happen to know that there's a certain Jedi who will be happy to help you out with final preparation, and this year he won't be competing against you. Remember - clean, fire extinguisher, clean, first aid kit. Oh, and clean a bit more :D

Also, everyone get your entries in early - if the organisers know early enough how many entrants in each class they have, they can organise extra trophies (eg third and fourth in grey import class). Late entries will probably result in only a first and second trophy being available, and some good cars missing out. The skyline contingent sounds like a big one this year.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Oh, sounds like there will be a dyno there for the show too.

    yes...

I was warned by the Skyline crew last year that they would be back in force in 2010 to get that trophy. I really hope we can get a good display together.... but I sense a great disturbance in the Force and that we may struggle to get numbers this year. So far we have only Wykked and I as confirmed. Redzedmikey is without RZ2.... It will be an uphill battle trying to convince Jack to bring his zed.... I believe Andrew (Kr4usy), who attended last year is out. Renee and Craig are still unknowns.... as are the other S.A guys..... Can we count on the Dangerous mobile being on display again?

C'mon some of you Vic and S.A folk!

Here's a copy of a post I've put on the Skylines forum.

    http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Riverland-Auto-Expo-2010-t330445.html

This year's show is on November 6th and 7th. I hear a fair few Skyline owners have already entered - apologies if a thread has already been started on this.

I don't organise the show, but my team is asked to judge it each year. I've either entered or judged the show every year since the mid 80s - crap, I must be an old fart! Since the Skyline Club turns up in numbers each year - and it's great to see this level of support - I thought I'd jump on your forum and post a 'hello, and if you have any judging questions - fire away'. I'll try to log on every week or so, and answer any questions that people post.

Just to give everyone a bit of background, the Riverland show is judged according to the Street Machine Association of SA (SMASA) judging system, which is designed to cater for everything from pre 1948 rods to brand new cars. The judges all have a minimum of 20 years of experience, and they know what they're doing.

Initially, here's a few things to keep in mind

cars should be unlocked, with bonnet and boot open, and CLEAN. We reward hard work and thought (ie safety, cleanliness and attention to detail) as much as quality of finish. A closed bonnet gets zero points for the engine bay. An open but not so good engine bay at least gets a few points
An info board always helps, especially if the car is non standard (not so much engine internals, but body and trim)
any modifications should improve the car and make it safer - if you've got an early skyline with silly engine power and standard brakes and suspension, well..............
As mentioned, we reward safety. We like to see cars with fire extinguishers within reach of the drivers, and also first aid kits.
Lastly, I need to let everyone know that I am affiliated with the Nissan 300ZX Club, as I own one (I own other makes as well). For this reason, I do not select the overall Club Display trophy. I always discuss this with the show organisers. Nor do I judge any of the vehicles, unless one of my judges cannot attend the show. If I do judge, I can guarantee that my judging, as well as that of all the judges, is impartial and fair. All of the judges contribute their time and efforts on a voluntary basis - we are rev heads, petrol heads and Street Machiners, just like the entrants. We want a successful and fun show, just like the organisers and entrants.

Obviously the same applies to this forum - any questions, post here and I'll respond.

    Cheers, Dangerous

Jedi, the rules state that any display with three or more associated cars qualifies for a Club Display, and they don't have to be judged. It's not just the number of cars, it's the presentation, theme, info and quality.

See my other post re Renee - you have to convince her - use a Jedi Mind Trick!

Since we will probably bring the kids, maybe RZM needs to fly into Adelaide and take our car.........

  17. RedZedMikey

RedZedMikey RZM should now be DZM

That sounds like a good alternative Mark, so we'll see what pans out. Will discuss on Wed week if you/Pete wil be at NDSOC meeting. Remember, I drive an NA every day ;););).

Great minds think alike. I was just saying to Jen last night that since Mark has two cars now he may want to take both to increase his chances of trophy collecting, and also might consider a "For Sale" sign on the NA if it is getting close to that time. Mustang is still in storage and definately wont be ready for Berri.

  19. RENZED

RENZED Girl in the black beast

I'm in the process of working out when my Sem2 assignments and stuff are due...I should be able to roster myself off for the weekend so that shouldn't be an issue...HOWEVER, Craig is in a new job..so it also depends whether he can get leave or not..but I'll let ya's know..

Having a dyno there this year will be a bonus :)

By the way Dave..I don't think my zed could get any cleaner..if I cleaned it anymore it would disappear :p...its hard trying to keep a black zed clean..especially if a slight layer of dust lands on it with the sun (very hard to disguise)..anyways will keep you guys informed..but if there is more VIC zeds then SA zeds..shame..shame!

Sorry Renee - I didn't mean to suggest that your car was not clean last year - it was. It was more a reminder comment to everybody that when judging, cleanliness counts just as much as bucketloads of money. Dust on the car during the day is taken into account by the judges too. They're pretty good at telling 'fresh' dust from 'old' dust :)
