i think the most amazing thing here is that you managed to change your underpants without getting out of your z Glad you're alright dude.
EDIT disregard my previous post.... The inner ends supplied with the UAS kit are chrome molly, but I don't know about the actual arms. Will pass on to John to clarify...
Blimin heck... you arnt going to repair it right, just remove it.... HICAS is useless nowdays anyway, im suprised to see you were still running it. How much camber change have you been running with you're adjustable arms? you really should get rid of the HICAS the moment you start mucking with that kind of stuff, i'd imagine it is likely your cause. the hicas changes the toe but changes to your camber will throw the whole lot out of whack. you wernt cornering at the time but i think it would have had a crack in it prior to the actual break...
i second this. when your lock nuts are done up to tight it stretches the thread between the tie end and the locknut. lock nut should only be tightened between 37-46N.m which is not alot. but who's got crows feet for there torque wrenches these days. glad your ok though.
Not really an endemic problem with our "20 year old cars" me thinks, PENIS HEADS IN LANDCRUISERS, now there's a clear and present danger
Yep, your right on those points. But i can confirm my camber is only -1.8 degrees. Which isn't much from stock. And when i had the camber done, i had a 4 wheel alignment done and the toe was adjusted to correct settings. So nothing was out of whack on that side of things. Another good point! When i pulled it all apart to replace the unit, the lock nuts were firm, but certainly not overtightened (in this instance anyway, but like i said, who knows what damage was done before my ownership of the Zed):rofl::rofl: @ you Vic! ...and a bloody good point too!! Stay away from those bastards! [TIS] Like i said in an earlier post, this is what i found upon further inspection of the arm...
Not a bad beer that one.... Corona is still the beer of choice for warm day z32 work but those summer lagers go down well
Any reason you have kept the HICAS? HICAS was good when it was new.... 20 year old HICAS... not so much.
I wondered what bonezx was doing with the hacksaw, now I know Sorry, joking only, and glad to see you are OK Benny. Good write-up too
Arms look like cro-mo, bit to shiny to be just normal old steel. Would be a good upgrade in that case.
Steering rods K1045 and Zinc plated made by Bosnjak Engineering, elastic not brittle but strong ...so will bend rather than break
Once again I ask what's so bad about HICAS? I don't have it on my NA, but it seems like a good feature? and don't give me some crap about better drifts
Well I got rid of mine on the last car as it was at the track alot, but this one I've kept it, because it works fine, if it breaks I'll remove it. If it aint broke don't fix it.
I had my hicas on for 9years . only removed it when I did my major suspension upgrade. I found it gave my car that boat feeling when pushing at decent speeds (over 80km) around corners. (I mean pushing to the extend where tyres are at their limit) Much more direct feel without.
I personally don't do track work, so i can't by any means speak for those that do it. But I've kept my HICAS because it works fine, and particularly because i travel 20mins to and from work everyday along 100kph and when overtaking or more agressive (mild) cornering, it feels solid and safe. I guess because i'm used to the HICAS, and while it's working fine, i have no reason to get rid of it at all.
As i said... new HICAS .... great... 20 year old worn HICAS... better off without it... and reconditioning it just isnt worth the effort... i also kind of see it as a driving aid... i would get rid of the ABS as well but with the quality of drivers and roading in the cities here you kind of need it lol...
