i really need to stop making these threads...
any way another thought has crossed my mind,
an rb26 or VG30dett powered 240z plus suspension, drive train and body/interior work.
and probably some nice wide rims to attempt to actually keep it on the road.
i've seen the price of the 240z going up and done a lot lately particularly anything with a decent engine, but if i find a good shell (being an engine swap i dont really need it(the engine)) it all a matter of finding the right running gear.
would posibly consider a small block V8 as well but then do i supercharge etc.
with a curb weight scant over 1t the power weight ratio would be massive
    opinions?

Not like it hasn't ever been done, look on hybridz.org lots of info there...

Basically, due to the cavern that is the 240z engine bay, you can put any damn engine you desire in there.

rb30 bottom end with a rb25 head = pure goodness. its pretty cheap to do too.

    I'd go with a VG30DETT or even a VG30DET with a massive single turbo.

I'd look at a lighter, alloy block V engine like the the VH, and butt right up against the firewall. GIves the old 240 some serious handling.

im thinking finding the body is going to be the hard part, there seems to be no shortage of info on engine swaps for the 240. might have a chat to a mates brother he has 3 240z shells... allegedly

    plenty of room

to plant just about any engine you'd like in the 240 cave.
    I'd go rb26, single gt35r.

There's a hell of a lot of info on 240z engine swaps. From VG's, RB's, LS1's, BMW V12's. go to HybridZ and just search...it's the most common nissan chassis to cop an engine transplant.

Go a 2 seater 260Z if your going a engine swap, keep the 240's pure :p

been thinking more and more about it, i saw one a 240z that had a twin turbo VH45DE utilizing a very similar manifold setup to the VRH35Z(L) found in the R390(1) i know for a fact i would punch a fluffy kitten in the face to have that setup as i don't think the VRH engines are exactly common.
and from the pics i saw there was still heaps of room in the engine bay

Yeah i'd probably go with the vg30dett too! The rb26 might hang too far forward and negatively affect handling perhaps?

Why would it ? The 240 came with a straight six.

But I agree with Chrispy, don't ruin a 240 - get a 260 which is less rare and will never command the price of an original 240.

Yeah true, but I was thinking the rb26 would weigh a fair bit more than the original straight six.. Only opinions, I don't know much about 240z..

you can buy a rb26 conversion kit. with steering rack engine mounts and gearbox mounts!! and just about everything else if you look hard enough

Second hand VRH's go for around US$20k, if you can find one.

I know the 240 you are thinking of, huge $$ spent on it.

i don't think i would go as far as they did, there pushing flat 9's the V10 would be freeking sweet as well, it does look like its still got room for 2 more cylinders though;). however the cost of the engine and availability of it are prohibiting. the VH45 is a comparatively cheap and common engine. with a relatively high power out (with appropriate tuning) and low weight, plus as Andymac mentioned handling is an issue. keep it light keep it balanced, dont want to put too much weight too far forward. the pics with the V10 look like it would be fairly well balanced i still think it would be too front heavy.

is it possible to fit a 240/260 with power steering?
