Yeah I realised that when I got home  I'll have to drop by and grab it this weekend if possible. Maybe you could find that engine lift bracket in the mean time?

LOL, playing with the ute has kept me away from the Zed though Ben

I'm looking for a set of those vehicle positioning jacks atm so I can just wheel the Zed out from the wall and open the doors when I need to work on it. The wiring is going to take ages too so I think I might pull the doors off to make it easier instead, maybe...

Such a blast from the past, those were the days. Zed was brand new to me (about 2003) and was just out enjoying it because it drove so well. Franz and a guy called Andrew used to cruise along in a convoy of 3 and we'd just film each other doing stuff. Ended up making some vids of it all... :) Cheers for that! (mines a 2 seater BTW)

Well, as of tonight I've pulled the engine! Two very broken (for a long time by the looks of things) engine mounts and a dropped crossmember later she's sitting on the engine stand with the clutch/flywheel off and ready for some major mods :D

Never going to use engine slingers again! Front drivers side was ok, but the rear passenger side needed the AC hoses on the firewall disconnected so I could bolt the slinger to the head. When putting the engine on the stand I realised how much the slinger had moved and had actually torn the metal on the slinger mount between the bolts as it rotated the slinger towards the centre of the motor. Meh...

The easy way to keep the flywheel in place while you loosen the flywheel bolts :D

You can also see the ripped LHS engine slinger a little better too.

Bit of readying the garage for an increase in productivity today. I have been looking online to buy some Vehicle Positioning Jacks so I can move the Zed out into the centre of the garage to work on the engine bay rewiring. The easiest way is to have both the doors wide open or remove them completely. Removing the doors is the last option really so the VPJ's make the most sense. After enquiring online and today at Auto One and SuperCheap I just called into Mal's in Balcatta to have a casual look when I found the perfect VPJ's. After a little to-ing and fro-ing regarding whether or not they had them in stock and how much they actually cost I picked up a set of 4. Made by Big Red, come fully assembled and work a treat! Were cheaper than any US based online price I could get plus they fit a 11"+ tyre too

Pulled the gearbox out and gave it a quick clean. Nothing more than clutch dust and a little road grime. If I can get a 98 spec gearbox for a reasonable price I'll sell it, but for now a clean-up and a little paint to match the intended engine block colour is on the cards.

Much more room in a double garage now....

.... the ute wasn't relegated to driveway parking for long...

    Cleaned engine bay.

It's all happening now really. The wiring is the next item on the check-list before the engine bay starts getting welded up and smoothed. I'll be building a mild engine from the parts I already have in the mean time. There's a long term plan but this motor is too good to not just freshen up a bit and sell off as a complete assembly once the big motor is ready to go in.

Stinking hot today so I just did some research into some new suspension online, and roughed out a radiator air box I'm going to put together out of ally. It's rough and there's the two sections under the side mount intercoolers to do yet, but you get the idea. I've gone back to SMIC's and grabbed some Ash Massive intercoolers. I can't find the old OEM SMIC brackets atm so they're not mounted just yet.

always inspiring seeing the amount of work youve already done, but continue to improve upon the car anyway, well done!

if needed, i have set of oem side mount air guides if you need them, no brackets though

Really like your garage, makes me wish I had just brick walls instead of plaster so I can mount all the cool little organising bins and racks / shelves to it :p

Looks like your making great time so far, every post shows a lot of steady progress towards what your after.

Keep up the good work, one of my fav Z's and it's only going to get better by the looks

    Cheers,

    Craig

Thanks Ross and Gagz, it's always a game of "I can't do this until I find out how that fits there" but I'm finding time so it's enjoyable :)

I'll organise to drop around Ross

I'm sure you would have done this anyway, Brad. But your headlights look like they could do with a clean (& you have perfect access currently).

this sounds pretty cool, just to clarify though is this all going in the stock location? or are u bringing everything forward into the front area just behind the front bar ?

there mint, look perfect for moving the car around without the eng in. how much where they

are you making a rad box to house the radiator there or an air dam ? if its the air dam are you continueing the seal the whole way back to the rad ? i think mattz did this and looked pretty sweet tried looking up his thread about it but the pics are not loading
