Hey um question from the novice, where the heck do you find your Uniform Tire Quality Grading (UTQG) on your set of tyres...
You may not find it on aus tyres as it is a North American requirement. Check this out.http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?make=Dunlop&model=SP+Sport+9090&tirePageLocQty= You'll notice that the the 1st column the tyre specs are 225/45ZR17 91Y, the 91 is the LOAD INDEX (615 kg per tyre) and the Y is the SPEED RATING (300kph). It has a UTQG of 280 AA, treadwear 280 - traction A - temperature A. The higher the treadwear number, the longer it will last, ie harder compound, semi slicks or R compounds have a low UTQG (less than 100). "Some tyres carry Uniform Tyre Quality Grade (UTQG) data which is a valuable tool when comparing to other brands. Let's use the example of a tyre having a UTQG label of 60-A-C. The number 60 identifies the tyre that has a tread wear index of 60 (the lower the number, the softer the tyre). The next two letters identify the traction index and temperature resistance index, respectively. A school type grading system is used - an A, B or C grades are awarded." from Autospeed http://autospeed.com/cms/A_2912/article.html
