First event is Sat 5th July, 2008

New form of racing coming to Australia called Superlap. It is huge in Japan, England and New Zealand. Road class and open class. Trophies and price money. Lots of big sponsors. Specialist assistance from, Whiteline for suspension advice, V Sport for racing brakes advice and parts, Yokohama Tyres doing air pressure tests of cars before and after track pyrometre tests. See link for more.

    Looks Interesting.

Can you run RE-55s in the Clubsprint class? What tyres are you going to use Ports?

No re55s JT unfortunately, the tyres must have a UTQG rating of over 100, such as
    Yokohama - AVS Sport
    Bridgestone - RE070A, RE-01R
    Falken - RT615, RT215
    Federal - 595RS
    Toyo - R1R
    Michelin - Direzza Sport Z1
    Dunlop - Pilot Sport PS2
I'm looking at the RT615 or 595RS as these would still be fine for supersprints.
John you should have a close look at this, should be lots of fun.

I'm guessing the Toyo R-888's will be out too. Guess the idea of buying a spare set of wheels might have to happen sooner rather than later if I really want to tackle this. Can't be stuffed with the interstate travel part so will hold off and see if/when it comes to Melbourne.

Well this looks good to me as well - except I need a new motor first! Won't be at OP, but perhaps there will be other circuits added in time.

I can see a few queries coming up ...

No rear engine 6 cylinder or above vehicles are allowed in the Clubsprint Class. No rear engine 6 cylinder or above vehicles are allowed in the Open Class. Woohoo, no Porsches! And the Ferrari F40 I've just bought is mid-engined not rear engined :D :D :D (tongue-in-cheek of course). If I'm reading these rules right, it seems as though they want to exclude all the exotics and near exotics. I wonder if the rear vs mid engine question will be tested? Not sure why a Porsche/NSX/Ferrari should should be excluded whilst 2 R35 GT-R's are entered in Clubsprint??? Not exactly a cheap car, and apparently will match a Porsche 997 Turbo! Perhaps an obvious bias towards type of vehicle? Of the 69 entered in both classes as at 1pm 31/3/08, only 4 are non-Japanese cars - 3 BMW's and 1 Lotus! No Commie/Falcoon V8's yet!

All convertible type vehicles must either a hard top or a full roll cage. Be interesting to see how they classify targa-tops.

At $250 for Clubsprint, entry fee is cheaper than I thought it might be; but I wonder how much track time each car will get compared to a normal club track day???

I hope the promise of this event is matched by what actually transpires.

  7. Hey guys,

We have built this event mainly for japanese vehicles which is why we have set the rear engined rule the way we have. Mid Engined vehicles are fine as the amount of Ferraris that will show up compared to the amount of Porsches is 10 to 1. If we did allow porsches in then it would give the Clubsprint Class guys alot less chance of being at the pointy end of the field. There are some Holdens and Fords entering they are just not on the entry list yet and we also are hoping for a few more euros to come and mix it up with the jap cars. We hope to make this a big event and take it to a few different tracks in different states next year if all goes well.

    Cheers
    -Nathan

    More info

The open class which I am in get a pit garage and not sure what else extra for the privelage of paying more. I don't think any more track time. Track time is at paractice and open days, this is a competitive event.

The event is huge and coslty to run as with CAM's cost and insurance, security, with big prize money and trophies etc etc, hiring GP track NON car club on a weekend is like 6 or 7 k alone.

With lots of spectators also paying it may well get cheaper for competitors in the future.

I hope to compete also in VIC and QLD.

I really need to update the sig with a 5th pic ... which would be a repeat of the first pic except that the oil is now cappuccino coloured.

Those pics are RZ2; the ugly oil-in-the-radiator was figured to be a head gasket problem. Seems that was wrong; after replacing with ARP head studs and Cometic gaskets, nothing changed except the colour of the oil. Most probably an internal crack in the block.

    I was SHAFTED!

But hey, now I get the opportunity to bling that which hasn't yet been blung, as soon as there is enough $ flow to sort the motor out again ... target date is to have RZ2 ready for our NDSOC concourse on Nov 30th.

RZ1 needs to be on her way to you in Sydney much much much much quicker than that! My first free weekend this year is April 19/20, will continue on RZ1 then ....

I'll be interested in this in the future, pity I'll be in the super crazy open class :( Does anyone know if water/meth injection will be allowed, I noticed that no methanol fuels are allowed... Does water/meth injection count?

Anyone know a good place in QLD to get a half cage fabricated?
