I am worried about breaking stuff in that I would really rather not but am well aware that such things do happen and it is all part of the game. I mostly asked because, being new to the whole thing, I did not want to go and have x break and find out that everyone except me knows that you always break x unless you do y before hand which everyone except me does as a matter of course.
Thanks for the checklist, handy indeed. I am definitely not worried about who I beat and who beats me, I drive an NA Zed because I love it, not because I can't get anything faster. I am just getting involved in motorsport for the fun, not to beat everyone.
My Z wont be competein at the local drag strip until the new engine goes in, I've done the fastest I can in it... No point ringing it's little neck :zlove:
yeh get on out there everyone i want to see the NA boys n girls adding to that list AZA that time you have posted of a 14.730 with a 2.070 60' was that running the mickey t's or your streets.. James
ddaaaammmmmnnnnn this must be the NA comity ,, its good to see you boys getting out there ... the more your scared of breaking something the more its going to break .. so , first things first ,, don't be scared ,, and you don't have to go flat out on the track you do what feels good for you ,, and then creep up slowly .. look when you go let me no ill race with you... i think my BMW will be ready just tuning the nos
Not going to Break anything, Zeds are pretty bullet proof. Drive train takes the most punisment, with the clutch being the weakest link. If you are only going for one night to see what it is all about, shouldn't be a problem, If you keep going back chasing times, then expect to have some issues.
^^^ Agreed. Also depends on how you drive your car at erm... "other times" I used to drive my 180 like a granny, and hence, didn't find its BIG problem until i ran the 1/4 However another mate from the SilWA club who had a worked S13 on its 3rd engine, pointed out that for his car, the 1/4 mile was like giving his car a night off. Not condoning his driving in "other places" but, the point was he'd already know if his car had issues way before he even rolled up to the strip.
AZA's time was on the street tyres, he was a little slower with the slicks due to a slipping clutch. Thats the thing is with slicks, if your clutch isnt capable of a holding the extra strain then you wont necessarily be quicker. If your clutch can hold a 5000rpm odd launch with the slicks then you should go somewhere near a 1.7 60ft and drop aboout 3 or 4 tenths in the 1/4.
but at the end of it all .. it was good to get out there and place a time like that.. good effort:zlove:
Thanks for everyone's advice, I got a new clutch (just an OEM replacement, nothing fancy) when I bought the car about 20000kms ago, a new one piece tailshaft about 2000kms ago and the 200000km service about 500km ago, everything else seems good so I guess it is off to a bike shop for a helmet and then off to Caulder Park with me, unless anyone in Melbourne can reccomend anywhere better. Anyone want to join me?
nah my clutch didnt slip JT it was a matter of too much grip the clutch bit the tyres gripped but not enough momentium get a good launch lightened flywheel prob didnt help, i would need alot of practice to try and semi ride the clutch to get off the line well. what i was doing with the slicks was reving to about 5-6k and dropping it you could see the tacho needle drop to under 3k in the video not enough torque at that rpm unfortunately
Not here in Aus that I know of simply because there isn't alot of them around. I'll be heading up to Willowbank sometime in the future with my 86t when it's ready and once I get it out of storage. There are lots of guys running sub 12 second 1/4 miles in the states, with a handful running 10s and lower in South America.
