I hit up the drags again this wednesday.. got there early and got in 3 runs in a hour before a fanbelt started to come loose on the return line and forced me to retire ... set the new pb of 14.911 @ 145.72km/h.. on the first run in the harsh sun.. track temp was 45 while the air temp was 27 shes also is still dead stock and running street tyres at 30 psi .. ill go back in winter and see if i can get the NA to break under 14.5 putting me at number 1 on the list.. maybe some one would be kind enough to let me borrow there Mickey T's for a run or 2 Cheers James
nice results for NA Personally, Id try and see if you can get your desired time without changing tyres. Just my opinion though... but i like to know what my car does with 100% street setup (ie, exactly the same gear and setup as the car has every other day) But yeah, depends what you're into. BUt for me, thats how i kow how fast "MY car" is, litterally.
Congrats James, good time You can borrow my Nitto Drag extremes if you like. 17" though, guarentee they will be stickier than what your using Only need about 18lb pressure, not the 30lb you have been running.
my wife said im not allowed to run until i have more money behind me to fix the car afterwards What... just cos I blew the head on the 180zx.... come on :bash:
haha even so.. you will still have the VH filling you engine bay before i do.. very interested to see these NA's with NOS hot300zx.. im actually moving to albury in a week so first chance i get ill have to come down and scope em out James
i have a set of mickeys T's for sale if your interested i only did one nite at the drags but found they made me bog too much got a slower 60ft time, its harder to feather the clutch in me NA not much travel and it bites hard, trayns did his run with street tyres with alot of practice. i might give the drags another go later in the year, come on NA boys there should be more on the drags list
What sort of time could I expect from a basically stock NA manual? More to the point, what precautions should I be taking to reduce my chance of breaking something expensive?
dont go if you can't afford to fix shit lol. Na go. In put it off for ages in my last car for fear of breaking something But it was the best night... sooo much fun. No one can tell you what time to expect because its about car AND driver (sorry but i detest people that hand thier keys to a good driver they know to see "what my car can do"... FFS you ARE part of "your car"... anyway) Just go and have fun.
na manual stock in good nick should be between 15..25 for a perfect run, to 16.5 depending on how bad you bodge it, i reckon about 15.75 would be the norm....
drive it to the strip , park it in the carpark and go watch to be truthful,if you are worried about breaking something, you shouldnt go to the drags,(especially if its your daily driver) its all or nothing
I can afford to fix shit, I just don't want to break something I could have saved with a bit of preventative maintenance. To be honest drag racing is not really my thing, I want to get into track stuff but I figure I should give it a go at least once or twice.
IN that case same as always Check all fluids Check for codes Check tyres and brakes Check ur hoses, belts, lines, wires Make sure shes running good clean oil, fuel, coolent Pick one of the cooler nights to run on Have an aftermarket temp guage and watch it If you haven't already, a compression test would be a good idea, and leak down to be sure, but thats very paranoid. If you really want, get your nearest Zed expert to fully go over the car. Jokes about the wife aside, I haven't run my Zed yet, as Im doing exactly that, getting a feel for the car, having poeple look at it and let me know what its little issues might be. Another tip....... When you run, you will cain your engine, the make a small run back... and then what? Line up again...... so NO AIR FLOW cooling our engine after the run Thats why people pop the hood. It's not for show. POP it. DOnt be shy. Let all that hot air out. Likewise, ensure you start your engine well in advance of your each run to make sure she's at temp. im done. Ive only been once but picked up on all the above. Also dont get too obbsessed with chasing a faster time. Just see what you can do and enjoy. And dont get at all obsessed with beating the other guy. (allthough I was haha) Its about you and your car. Yes getting a "win" is awsome, but its not what these nights are about.
yeah its good fun,you really just want to go there with a well maintained zed and youll be right to give it a burst, how hard you want to push it is really up to you,
