In a relatively recent oil comparison, one manufacturers cheap semi-synthetic (synth/mineral blend) product significantly outperformed its far more expensive "Full Synthetic" stablemate in almost every test.

    "Know What I mean?"...!!!

i use motul chrono (10w40) in my car. it is pricey but it is the best oil i have used, even better than royal purple IMHO. im not saying royal purple is crap its great stuff, i just prefer motul.

when i had it in my 03 STi, coming form castrol edge, the motul ran much better, it idled better, lost my random misfire (came on at idle only which happened once every 5 seconds or so) the car ran smoother and came on boost faster and reved faster as well.

when i had it in my vx commodore (6 cyl) [motul 300v competition coming from pentrite] it revved faster, used less fuel (went from 13L/100km to 12L/100km) and it idled like new and the car ran much smoother while cruising down the highway.

in my maxima im using chrono and the car had come from using castrol magnatec (nissan dealership before my ownership) to castrol edge when i first got it severed through nissan.
the car ran better, revved harder and pulled harder. idled quiet used much less fuel 14L/100km - 12L/100km

so i do highly recommend motul, but its not cheap... $125 for 5L of 300v, if you have a entertainment voucher it nets you 20% off the bottle at autobarn

also while your buying your oil and getting your filter, see if you can get a drift or k&n oil filter, they have a magnet in the filter that will pick up the metal shavings that come out of your engine. other thing i love about drift filters (not sure if the k&n filters have it) is they have a nut welded on the back which allows you to use a socket to remove the filter rather than playing around with oil filter removers.

I've heard good htings also about Motul (apart from that Engine oil test awhile ago) but your really comparing race oil vs street oil unless you tried the XPR Royal Purple to be on a more price similar playing field?

yes i have tried the RP XPR oil. had it in r34 skylines.

first was a NA skyline, it did idle much better and run smoother. did not notice anything major in performance. but this was a NA

other one was a r34 gtt built by top secret japan as their ex track car.
dont know what oil it had in there previously but the car wasnt run for over a year so we changed it out to XPR. can not comment on how good it was... this car was worked off its head with full forged motor, custom intake manifold, huge turbo, heavy cammed, etc. but it did run amazing with XPR.

like i said RP is amazing as well. i just havent had a chance to test it properly.

i have been using motul and i love it. im happy with the product and maybe ill try RP one day. but RP is 170+ for 5L so not really worth it for me.
125 for 5L is pretty pricey for oil already.

My car runs best on Motul 300V chrono (or whatever the top of the line one is). I have some Penrite 10 tenths synthetic from the dyno day, will probably run this next change and compare.

But yeah runs much better on Motul than it did on ELF synthetic.

Sorry, but in EVERY car/bike/go-kart/superkart/boat/RC aircraft and RC cars Ive owned, built, rebuilt, raced, ridden, piloted and skippered in in excess of 45 years, and there's been quite a few of them, I can honestly/confidently say/state i have NEVER, EVER noticed ANY difference to ANYTHING, REGARDLESS of the oil brand, type or "weight" used.

I lied, ONLY thing I ever noticed change was oil pressure at idle when hot.. and so what.. couple of psi each way?? Pfff.

As far as Im concerned, most of all the claims are simply delusions of grandeur and perhaps you brain is simply trying to justifying the ridiculous cost of a lot of these fancy packaged/named snake oils in a road car. if it costs to buggery, has a fancy name and cool packaging along with an exhorbidant price, then it MUST be wonderful....

Missfires magically vanishing, amazing fuel economy changes...boosting faster.....just running "smoother/better"........... more power you can feel....... caaaarrrr-monnnnnnn.... Bollocks!!! Its just lubricating oil, Not several quarts of Nitro-Methane:D:D:D:D:D

I judge the quality of oils I've used in the past by the observed oil pressure during start-up, idle, cruise and boost. I also change my oil quite frequently/consistantly and also use the color of the used oil as a basis of judging it's quality.
I've used AMSOil, Eneos, Shell, Elf, Mobile 1 and Motul. I've found the 300V (15W50) Motul to be the best so far although it's quite expensive. I found Motul 8100 X-Cess (5W40) on sale a few weeks ago and tried that last week for the first time. So far it seems good but doesn't give as good oil pressure readings like the 300V Competition. Of course I could probably attribute that to the difference in viscosities between the two.

I'm only after better oil pressure at higher temperatures say 100 -110 degC. I have improved the oil cooling since last track day. Awaiting larger capacity oil pan from US.

Martin, which oil pan did you go with?

Been looking at these myself, and/or considering modifying my own.

I had to trim the plate in the bottom that the pickup goes through and getting it over the girdle was a really tight fit. But it didn't leak and once its on its on.

I emailed last night via their web form, just got a reply this morning.

Currently out of stock but with a new batch coming in soon. $725 + around $250 freight. So around a grand or probably a bit more now with the aussie dollar in freefall :(

How much did SZ quote for freight?

$595 on their website. The Moroso unit looks to be a tidier fit -for the sake of $130 that's what id be fitting if I had the engine apart again
