Sammy's correct, you don't need a dual pod setup for this intercooler...

I think these HKS lookalike FMIC look so dam hot!

And a great upgrade on the stock SMIC, however they don't seem to be as big as the aftermarket FMIC that most people are now running thanks to jamez, also, they aren't as big as the "mofo" SMIC that jamez is now running

Some comparison numbers for core volume, are:

    jamez FMIC - 600x300x90 - 16.2 million cubic mm
jamez mofo SMIC - 2x280x200x90 - 10.08 million cubic mm
    stock SMIC - 2x172x165x57 - 3.25 million cubic mm
Zrated HKS lookalike FMIC - 510x210x67 - 7.18 million cubic mm

Given that Nissan thought the stock ones were good enough, and the HKS lookalike's are over twice the volume, i'd think it's a pretty ideal size for people wanting to upgrade (exhaust, pod, ebc, etc) - keeping in mind that if you go too big, then you get more pressure drop and lag

However for people chasing big numbers, like I am with the turbo upgrade, I'm guessing that they're not big enough for my application

Nice though Tom, i think most people should get these! so different from the typical ricer look and they look dam hot!

True, but there's more to intercoolers than pure size. As you said, you have to take into account pressure drop for one thing. Also, the surface area vs the depth as well as the air flow received, piping length from turbo to IC to intake, turbulence inside the IC etc. etc. . Not saying these are better or worse than the jamesz ones. I have no numbers for a comparison like that. But, generally FMIC get better airflow than SMIC. Just something to keep in mind. Plus, these look damn hot so there's the bling factor lol.

I'd actually love to see a comparison of these to other IC's if such a thing exists. Else we can wait and see ;)

    matt,

this exact cooler has been used in the states on a Z pushing over 600rwhp.... i'll try to find the info and send it to you.

Andrew and I both have these (they are being shipped at the moment). I'm sure Andrew will be pushing the big numbers.... under me of course... LOL :D

size means nothing.. I got a better gain on my Z, with the same mods as someone elses Z except he had a james style FMIC installed, I had my trust SMIC's installed. I didn't get a re-tune, nor up the boost, and the other person did get a tune but use the same boost, and my Z still made better power than his.

There is a reason why some coolers are more expensive than others regardless of size. If one of us had lots and lots of money to buy each, chop them up and compare then we would see why :)

Link must be down for the photos WA300ZX posted... I'll see if I can grab them off him...

Meanwhile, the first 5 coolers hit the shores of AU this week... can't wait to unwrap these babies and take some snaps! :D

Sorry to resurrect an old-ish thread, but I was wondering if there were any plans for a second run?

I'd love to get a pair of these, as I've looked into side-by-side setups, and I must say that they're quite appealing.
