Sorry. I've been distracted with being on holiday and arguing about NSW Road Rules. Where's the Melbourne crew meeting for this? Same Todd Road Service Centre?

    Looking forward to this run.

P.S. Mick and Sean - I have a cold again (darn babies and their sneezing in your mouth!). It seems that everytime I see you guys, I am sniffling and coughing.

Daylesford, sure why not. From what I've heard a lot of the residents would squeal with delight to see a bunch of sports cars, Daaarling :D

Hey guys, we're currently experiencing flooding again. Lost my driveway as usual, with more rain to come tomorrow. Not sure if the roads will be accessible for the goldfields run.

    Hi Everyone,

I am posting up about the same thing Ross is talking about...as Ross would know (since the storm hit Castlemaine before Bendigo), we have had what is probably the remnants of the WA cyclone pass through. It has dumped a shitload of water over the whole region causing flooding and as I hear it a lot of roads are closed and others will be covered in washed out rocks and debris scattered all over the place as there were some bloody decent winds in the mix as well.

I must say, the lightning and thunder were spectacular with huge bolts flying left right and center and the thunder came in waves, shaking the house and sounding as if we were being bombed  They felt and sounded like explosions, one on top of the other in groups of 6-10...never experienced a thunder storm quite like it

But yeah I would definitely say they are far from ideal conditions for the cruise to go ahead at the moment, especially with more rain expected tomorrow so I think in the interest of everyone's safety and that of their Zs we should postpone the cruise to either next weekend or a suitable time for everyone.

    Please discuss ;)

    Cheers,

    Craig

Another update: A lot of roads around Ballarat have been washed away. We're expecting an even worse downpour in the next few hours. :(

No input from me on this as I don't know the local conditions. I haven't even been to Bendigo.

I'll go with whatever decision is made. If it is postponed, I still may do a mini cruise up that way just to check the place out.

I'm currently checking the reports on road closures, haven't found any mention of closures along the proposed route yet.
    Anyone else?

Mind you, there's a LOT more rain due to hit the region late arvo so the equation might change then.

Gah! 10 years of drought followed by this.

Hi Guys just my 2c worth. Been looking forward to this for a while I missed the GOR run because it looked ugly, not making that mistake again.

PhilZ & I have already planned to get up Tomorrow ready to go and hope that with some guidance from you local guys, Gagz, Ross, Mick we can make a decision then.

If there's been no further advice we plan to head for Shell Westgate and see where we end up, although always mindfull that we don't wanna damage our cars. I've just finished lifting my car up a bit to compensate a little.

Please keep us informed guys your efforts are much appreciated.

Went for a quick drive from Castlemaine towards Daylesford. Roads look pretty good so far. There's a police car doing laps up and down this stretch.

Any idea what time this cruise will be at Mt Franklin? Will meet everyone there.

    A bit long winded, sorry...

I'm no expert at reading the rain radar, but it looks to me that the heavy rain we were expecting has passed North of us.

Now there's another patch on it's way over from S.A., it's some hours away. But it looks like it will get pushed north of us again.

    Rain Radar

So if the heavy rain is gone we won't have any closed roads. BUT BUT BUT...

Craig's concern about debris having been washed onto some roads is a valid one. You wouldn't want to be half way through a tight
bend then hit a patch of silt and gravel
Also, some of the lesser roads may have been undermined a little by now. Pot-holes are a bit of a worry in our cars...

Best plan I can come up with is to follow Ross's example and drive the roads in question to check for problems.
So I volunteer to hit the road at first light, I can check the section between Bendigo and Castlemaine.
Including Maldon plus a drive up Mount Tarrengower to the lookout station.
I don't have mobile internet access so i would have to phone one of you guys and ask you to post my findings. Plan?

My gut feeling is that we should be OK ( barring another deluge ) as long as we behave ourselves.
When we see a speed sign which recommends a reduced speed for the upcoming bend, don't treat it as "just a suggestion". Adhere to it.
This might detract from the fun a little bit but there's more to a Zed cruise than just hurling your car around twisties as fast as you can.

Lastly, out of curiosity. Just in case we pull the pin on tomorrow's cruise - what other dates are you guys available for?
I'm available any Sunday from here on.

    Cheers all :)

I was in Bendigo two hours ago and road was fine. Pot holes are no worse than normal.
