    Hi guys

I'v mentioned this before, and been shot down badly so I'm all flame suited up before I even start. I've been idly making some calls (bored at work) and have discovered I could pick up a BF mkII Typhoon motor and gearbox (270 kw 6 speed semi auto ZF) for $8500. Now I know there would be a fair bit of fabricating to make this work, but factoring in that ford parts are cheaper than Z parts, and the typhoon reponds really well to tuning I reckon I could have a faster car for less cash that a rebuilt Z. And I could have paddle shifts if I so desire.

    Thoughts?

You'll have spent well over 10 grand after fabricating everything. You would have a faster Z with a built VG for less money and less time!

He will have something different, and something that stands out.
Plus hearing that sort of growl coming from a Jap would be something for sure!

And I would have to spend a lot of money on a VG to achieve the same power as an exhaust and a tune will get out of the ford 4.0 litre. Looking into a built VG it will cost me about 10 large just for the block, then I have to add turbos, injectors, tune, bigger exhaust ( I have 2.5 inch but would probably need 3 inch) plus clutch, my gearbox would need refresh, etc. So in all reality probably close to 20 large OR have the falcon motor fabbed in, exhaust, tune and away we go for maybe around 15 grand.

Ford 4L is a massive motor, won't fit without major mods.

$8.5k sounds pricey too... Get a normal XR6 Turbo motor and spend the difference on it. Not sure if there is much difference between the normal motor and teh FPV, but I know the normal ones have issues with valve springs and con rods.

    Or go a LS1.

Or a 20B, which i looked into quite extensively. Would fit well even with all the ancilliaries like air con and PS. Only reason I didn't go this way is I bought a house and had a lot of fancy VG parts hanging around.

Or just do a VG like a normal person :p

How Fast ,What do you call faster?

$10k on the block!! You're getting taken for a ride :p

I doubt you will get that motor installed for $15k unless you are doing all the work yourself. Have a look at RB26 and 2J conversions, you are up for very similar work. So custom radiators, modded firewalls, modded rad support.

And the new Ford motors are a bitch to get working outside of a Ford body.

WORST excuse for doing a motor swap right there. Just listen to Chrispy lol...

I was going to do this a while back but the engine doesn't physically fit u need to smash the firewall back etc ... ALOT OF WORK needs to be done just to get it in and the custom driveshafts, wiring etc..a lot moe to it than just putting it in

Love the idea! 4L turbo mmmmm great combination of immediate torque and potential power. Sounds like it's going to get expensive though. If you have the contacts or know the right people with the right skills I'd love to see it done. Especially with that 6 speed auto, would be I great car to drive!

Ha ha ha, good thing I was expecting a telling off. Well to back up my idea, a typhoon made 270 kw factory. Add a tune and exhaust and well north of 300 kw is a cinch. With that I'll get the excellent sequential shift zf gearbox. To beef up a vg30 (head work, machining, cams, rods, pistons, and everything else) as well as rebuilding and toughening my gearbox and clutch plus labour will be around 10 large. Again, add turbos, manis, tune etc and it starts to get just as pricey, or even more so.

It seems at least worth thinking about. A coyote boss 335 would be even better but they are thin on the ground at wreckers just now ;)

Like Chrispy siad, the 4L is a massive engine. It would poke out of the bonnet half a mile. And the ZF gearbox will never fit in the trans tunnel, they are huge. You won't have it running and making any good power for under $20,000.

Coyote would be a good choice but rather pricey. If your a ford man, procharged 351 windsor is hard to beat and will fit easily.

And ur typhoon motor dont forget your talking 270kw yes, thats - "At the flywheel"
so by the time u get that onto the ground it may be what? approx 220kw ATW? and arnt most people getting that with a boosted VG with stock internals & stock turbo's? so why?
good base for easy mods i guess but your talking min 10k to get to the same point as a tt would be.. so you still gotta mod it to get more anyway.
if you really want an engine swap go an ls1 as said above, you will prob get one for like 2k and will still make the same power ATW with nothing but a exhaust & mafless tune.

put a 20b in you will love the power they put out ;) strap a gt50 to it and hang on. might need to mod your tacho though

a good ZF will not be cheap at all and the 06/06 foon motor wont be cheap either. I think the price is fair for the parts but thats half the prob. The fitting of this would be painful to say the least. Afetr owning a modified XR6 turbo id say just go buy a BA for 12k but problem is they just cant turn. I would love to see this done but the price of fitment even if you did it yourself would out weigh the ++++. If money is not the issue can i book myself in for a test drive ill pay you!!!!!!! Just to add my BA made 272rwkw with gutted cat and tune. i also did fuel pump and injectors in a plan for more hp but could have done that as it was so the power in the I6T is not an issue here its the fitment. We all know its a big donk and a big turbo so there is not a comparison for bang for bucks there.

part of me loves this idea (the part that jumps whenever someone says "you cant do that") then there is the p[art that says it is ford revenge for putting a nissan engine in a mustang in tokyo drift, but in reality I do believe (as stated by others) there are better options for a transplant.

Ok Ok, you've convinced me. I'll wait for a wrecked gs and a boss 335 :)
