    Had a chat ....

With both Ross and John from UAS today as I had a few questions ?

    Like:

    * Underdrive/overdrive issues - I liked that the Ross was not as underdriven.
    * Why are there no balance marks - Ross construction style precudes good balance
    * ATI balancers and there OEM style construction - not as rugged as Ross
    * Why 2 part numbers and there differnce - John at UAS had his requirements for the Z
    * General issues with balancers and higher HP - Reliability of new and better design

Considering all new products Ross/ATI/OEM are within $100 of each other,if I go new I know the Ross balancer is the pick.

Alloy undrive pulleys are claimed good for 20HP but lack any dampening qualities and may require waterpump overdrive pulleys, when I am hoping to go 450HP I want my some sort of dampening, maybe ok on a stock TT not being pushed that hard, the shorter V6 crank that is reputably tough should be able to handle (if in good condition) at stock power levels but I believe it is still a risk with ageing engines being pushed hard rebuilds are a reality.

Foot note to people doing timing belts or going over cars with unknown history get someone that knows what there doing to check the balancer bolt tension as rattle gun tightness isnt good enough, apparently when these are removed for 100K service they are frequently not tightened up enough causing engine failure when they come loose and flog out key way destroying the crank. This is the reason I am doing an engine rebuild :bash:

I hope this might answer some questions for people considering joining the group buy, as I am, just need to see if my rebuild budget can stand it, should have engine rebuild estimate this week.

Special thanks to Ross and John for taking the time to talk to me.

Waterpump overdrive pulley would be a huge mistake with one of these... look at the size of the pulley it does not underdrive as much as no-harmonic balancer underdrive pulleys. If you add an overdrive waterpump pulley you will most likely cause cavitation due to pump spinning too quickly.

surley there is more interest than just 3 people?

come on people get on board, this IS the best option with both lightweight and harmonicly dampened advantages giving the best of both worlds, while not risking damage or vibrations in the motor....

I've always been going to get one of these it is just a matter of when.
It dosen't look like this GB is urgent, any idea when it might all go ahead?
Just reading back, and I suppose untill there is 10 buyers.

Anyway, just thought i'd pipe up and say I was interested in the product, but only very tentavely. I wont add my self to the list at this stage, but will keep an eye on this thread.

I've followed up with John@UAS and he is awaiting feedback from ROSS to finalise a price.

i'll put in my EOI but it'll all depend on timing, after my tax returns, rate payments and a couple of "driving a modified vehicle" fines. i should be able to get the $ together.

I think vulcanised rubber to absorb vibration?
