Picked this up last night from Marks house, and must say thanks again for organizing the GB.

I opened up the box earlier to inspect what was in the kit. The kit as a whole looks to be well made and after checking out the tank, it looks as though you could actually pressurize the tank without having the car started via the valve on it. If this is the case, I will try to do this before my very first initial start of the new engine to ensure no gallery / journal and bearing are left without a healthy coat of oil around them. The bearing lube should be sufficient enough for this but you can never be to safe :)

The bottle holds about 600ml of oil which I think is a good thing as you will have extra oil through the system, coupled with a larger oil cooler and some modifications to the sump I am hoping to add more than 1L of oil to the systems capacity. I remember putting in 4L as a full oil changel but the service manual only says 3.5 for the TT from memory?

Has anyone modded their sump to hold more oil? Pics?

ill take a pic of my sump because i think it has been extended, i put 5L in last time i think,

with road cars im not a fan of oil coolers, unless they have an oil thermostat, i am of the opinion that most engine wear and damage occurs when the engine is cold not hot, so anything that will prolong the cold running period is not a good idea in my book,

    Hot and cold

cold and hot, we know what he ment! Anyway i fitted this cooler, and didnt notice any difference in the time it takes the engine to reach opperating tempture. With this and the pre-lube kit, the engine now takes 5.5L give or take a bit.

do you have an oil temp gauge?

    No i dont!

I was just going of the reading on the temp gage. We all know how accurate they are, ;) I also use amsoil 10w-40

yeah same oil as me, id be interested to see if the oil temp gets up to operating temp as fast as the coolant

The more oil in the engine the better IMO. It wouldn't really change the time it takes to get to operating temp with an extra 1L of oil. I think wykked put a thermostat inline with his cooler which is what I will do when the time comes.

yeah the extra 1l wouldnt do much ay, the cooler does but, thermostat is the way to go

How is it going to "pre lube' on your first start without any oil in it?The accumulator is filled with oil after the engine starts and builds up oil pressure. That volume is held by a check valve. When you "pre lube" ,the accumulated oil is discharged into the engine oil galleries, and you go through the cycle again, engine start- fill accum. etc ready for next time. The valve you see is to recharge the inert gas ( usually nitrogen) that gives the accum. it's discharge pressure. That accum. pressure must be lower than engine oil pressure for the accum. to charge with oil.Your engine oil capacity remains the same because the accum. is holding the oil ready for the next start.

    You dont

start the engine to fill the accumulator! What happens is you pressurize the accumulator tank to 30-40psi;turn the key to on, the 30-40 psi in the accumulator is forced into the oil galleries, and fills the accumulator. You now have .6L less in the sump and that should be replaced.
