MAF sensor cleaner. I still think its a vac leak guys the way it drops and comes back up like that. :p

My NA did the same, I remember discussing it with someone on here thru pm. Solved it somehow just cant remember anymore. perhaps a cash payment would refresh my memory. :D

Checked pm's and yep balance pipe O-rings weren't good enough you should try some gasket goo to help seal it. If its auto do the revs drop and climb the same between shifts? D and N?

IMO your stalling if your idling under 1000rpm cos your engine is struggling to maintain vacuum. Give some gasket stuff a try and see how you go. :)

no leaks whatsoever, and iv tested a thousand times, having less of an issue after cleaning with tb cleaner, but still there

So I pulled out my MAF and air filter

Air filter looks buggered, think i'll replace it with a new one.

The MAF has a hole in the mesh, as you can see in the photo... any way of fixing this without having to buy another MAF? Will having the hole cause dramas?

Ben try inducing a vac leak at the balance pipe like chillrage has done. Where the AIV usually connects to you would have a cap, just pop it off and start the car.

Gut still says fuel lol, more unmetered air in = leaning out the mix, as opposed to revs dropping which would mean overfuelling?

Meh, at least your wheels still look good.

Ben you should try introducing a leak..might help sort the problem out :p

do the rev's change significantly if you wiggle the coolant temp sensor connector?

a.) did you end up doing that compression test?
    b.) knock sensor failure??
c.) fuel lines, pump, regulator, dampener all ok?

Your AAC or IACV solenoid is a little sticky mate. Did you grease it up after cleaning it? Other than that it could just be a slow solenoid, wear and tear, etc. Quite a few older zeds have the issue, but the only real fix is to buy new, and it's not really worth it as it doesn't effect drivability, it just takes an extra second to adjust the amount of air coming through the IACV when returning to idle.

    didn't he bypass this already?

i had this problem about 6 months ago and just bypassed it with a hose, was an easy fix but since then i've replaced all the vac hoses and cleaned and replaced a few connectors and no longer have this issue with the IACV solenoid connected (after no repairs were done on the IACV).

    Didn't bypass...cleaned.

How do you mean bypassed? Bypassed the IACV unit itself?

iacv you dont bypass, its whats controls idle, its the Idle Air Control Valve,

yeah i was thinking it might have been a little laggy, anyway to prove it with consult?
