The little TomTom GPS beeps every time you get to a speed camera. I have tested it on the Pacific Hwy between Sydney and the Gold Coast. It did not miss a single one, but added one or two extra.

it might not mean much being a 12 hour trip but if u bypass newcastle by going throu cessnock it can save about 40min to an hour

at that time in the morning

at that time in the morning I want to miss the possible animal strikes, so I would choose to follow the highway towards Newcastle then sweep towards Maitland.

The road to Cessnock is rougher and more potential for animal strikes.

Have booked it in anticipation (comes available Wednesday)... if anyone is interested in sharing a 2-bedroom apartment (separate bedrooms each sleep three) please let me know urgently, as this is also available to me.

    I'm in !!

If it's OK, I'll meet up with the Sydney travellers along the way on the Thursday.

It's over 3 hours from Canberra to Thornleigh, which would mean I would have to leave home at about 01:30 Thursday morning to meet up with you, then drive all the way to Warwick. This is just too far to drive safely all in one day.

So I'll start travelling a day or so earlier and stay with friends in Lemontree Passage/Tanilba Bay on the Wednesday night. I'll meet up with you at the Raymond Terrace entrance on your way past. If you are leaving Thornleigh at 05:00, I reckon you'll head past me at about 07:00, maybe a little earlier.

    See you there.

    Cheers,

    Peter

Thunderbolt Way closed due to flooding

I just thought you guys should know that Thunderbolt Way is currently closed near Gloucester due to flooding. It's still pissing down rain and doesn't look like stopping so I don't know when they are likely to re-assess the closure.

The road is pretty average at the best of times so it's hard to say if the road will be damaged even if the rain stops.

I would suggest somebody monitor the situation before you all go screaming up the Bucketts Way

Thanks Ian, I've been watching the weather situation and been hoping for it to clear ASAP.
May take the pacific hwy to Grafton, Casino, Warwick or use the route that Steven suggested.

Can't see Steven's map anymore. Do all of these go past Raymond Terrace, or will I have to backtrack?

    Cheers,

    Peter

    MORE bad news Wayne.......

The Pacific Hwy is currently flooded at Coffs, not looking good if the rain doesn't stop soon. If you get stuck up this way, I've got plenty of beer in the fridge

Waterfall way is closed but I think Oxley Hwy is still operating.

Your best bet might be to go straight ahead through the donut at the end of the Newcastle expressway (to Maitland). All this is assuming that Warwick is not flooded
