Crew, we should start tossing idea's around for this now, find out who's coming up and when. There is practice on Friday afternoon on the track and wouldn't mind hitting that and registration is also on Friday afternoon, and it's about a 10 hour stint up there from Sydney with a few breaks and giving that it's a public holiday the plod will be out in force.

What's people's thought about getting up there?

My suggested route (from SYdney) will be up through Newcastle, Raymond Terrace, onto Buckets way to Armidale and then New England through to Warwick. Just under 800clicks and a fantastic route, not well known to most and generally deserted till Armidale.

Throw your ideas out there please guys as to when you were thinking of heading up.

I normally plan on a 11hour trip from Sydney to Warwick.

My technique is buy a 600ml coke (diet coke) right at the start and two hours later I have to stop for a wee-break, buy another 600ml and one-half hours later another stop, and repeat until at destination. Enforced stop-revive.

5am start at Thornleigh not that redicules

5am start at Thornleigh is not that ridicules. I have to travel a little further than Warwick to visit family, so I am looking at a 12 hour day for travel including stops. Hence for me the optimum time to leave is 5am to 530am, as the time I leave is the time I arrive. And considering that dusk and dawn is animal movement times, plus the light is in a bad for driving. So I am looking at leaving at 5am, which will mean the dawn animal danger time will be covered on the Newcastle freeway so greatly reduced animal strike potential, and therefore arriving at the destination in the afternoon in day light and thereby missing the dusk animal issues (plus less likely to doze off in full day light).

Unfortunately, I will be leaving on the Wednesday instead of Thursday, so that I get a extra day with family.

So early to bed for me on Tuesday night ... what is it like to go to bed before mid-night?

I quite like Andymac's route. A little bit of fun while we are still reasonably fresh and only 60 extra, more exciting kilometers.

Andy, What's that road like ? Any dirt ? I've been on that road up to Gloucester. Then Buckets Way turns into Thunderbolt Way, but I've missed that one

Caz, We are only 5 minutes away from Thornleigh Maccas. You are most welcome to come and stay the night. (or should I say the first half)

70km shorter and almost the same traveling time, plus 6 less speed cameras. Sounds like a smart choice on a Double Demerit weekend.
Thanks for doing the research Steven.
Thursday travel sounds good for us.

Roads are good. No dirt, and very few people take this route. Although the distance is slightly more, it's generally a much shorter route. Few towns, no congestion, no speed camera's, and it's a very pleasurable drive from Buckets way through to Armidale. Last time we did it in a SUV and left Wahroonga at 5 and stopped in Armidale just after 9. On boxing day, we didn't see any plod until we got to Armidale and the New England highway.
