Hey GJ, wtf? how does that pipe come out? isn't it pressed in place?

As for the speed issue, I don't think he'd have been doing too fast... you don't scrub that much speed when ur sliding sideways over a short distance, keeping in mind that half of the way he was bouncing off curbs etc so the rubber wouldn't have had good contact for much of the distance, plus dirt from the grass makes the rubber less tractable, also you can see how the rims were smashed on the kerb - the rubber may not have even been flat on the ground after he hit the kerb

as for the throttles initially being open, remember the engine was on fire - and then put out with extinguisher which may hv got into places it shouldn't... could be any reason why those TB's were open, including the drivers foot may have been on the pedal while he was still in the car after the crash - engine was on fire then put out with his foot on it, so the TB stayed in that position even after he exited the vehicle

I was surprised at the experience of that crash investigator chick... 6 years in the job? and she seems to not have much clue about cars.... wtf she was jumping on the 245 rubber like it was the magic bullet... the guy explaining to her that distance divided by time = average speed... she should know this stuff and be the one explaining it to the camera

I reckon that it was a case of over-correction to oversteer... I'm not sure if HICAS was involved - but I hate HICAS when you're trying to correct the oversteer...

as for the traffic, there was a lot of traffic after the accident, but it didn't seem like there was any around him as before and just moments after the accident there didn't appear to be any.

My condolences to the driver, nothing could describe how bad he must feel... the car and his injuries mean nothing compared to the loss of his bro :(

dammmmmmmm words seriously could not explain the heart break he would be going through right now. its amazing how he actually lived being the one closest to the wall at such a speed. 60kms may not sound like much but going into a wall is hell of a speed :eek: feel so sorry for him to have to live with such a fault on his shoulder :eek:

as for the accident, there are two scenarios that have won my vote. no i wont settle for one because no one knows exactly what it is.

    1. the throttle got stuck open for any reason (as they stupidly do). have a look at the show again, when he looked at the bay the throttles were open. the throttles came back to life, as he took the throttle cover off and played with the throttles a little untill they became soft (opening/closing).

the accelerator would not have been jamed in because he did not tamper with anything inside the car (i.e move something off that was jamming the accelerator down). he just purely removed the throttle cover and played with the throttle untill it became loose.

it was open. the extinguisher powder would have added to the throttle being regid when he tried to play with it... this tells you that the thottle was open, how could the throttle open just like that??? no chance. unless the accelerator is jammed down or as graham has mentioned something has caused it to stay stuck open. and he did not remove anything from the inside of the car so the throttle was stuck open.

    2. that road looks hell shit. he came around the bend, from the left lane. went to take the middle lane, with a bit of throttle... kicked out slightly shit his fkn pants, let go of accelerator quickly (worst thing to do when the car steps out stupidly), and as a result the vehicle shot in the complete diff direction as traction was caught again. headed straight for the gutter and so forth...

i hope no one ever goes through something like that incident. very sad.

one thing i couldnt help notice though, did anyone notice the guy has icers rice whels :p

    poor guy

LOL you would reckon wouldnt you. Fact is they do become loose and slip out.

I have seen 6 of em so far and there is more all the time. Look in the Zrelated last week.

They need to be checked and glued back in with JB weld.

Iv done 150km comming out of that corner... just kidding lol

I travel that way nearly daily, and i gotta say to lose it, you must really not know what your doing. even if the throttle jammed which i dont think it did, you could get away with it.

No tyre, skid marks to say he was drifting around the bend etc...

Just bad luck + speed + shittest roads in the world

I think i agree... after all it was a N/A model ZX wasnt it... IF so that rules HICAS out of it.... throttle body.. i guess we will never know... even so.. the lack of skid marks at ANY point really is a bit concerning?..

Perhaps as said.. bad luck.. perhaps ineXperience with that kind of car and road surface or ineXperience with the road... (could have been alot of things)..
And.. Question.. if driving .. and .. for some reason the TB does become blocked open.. whats teh best way for getting out of that or correcting that issue?

jam your foot on the brake, clutch in/put it in neutral. Stop and empty trousers of Sh!t

    red32 You talkin' to me?

Or switch off the ignition to stop the engine over revving. But remember, you'll also loose the power steering and, eventually, the brake boost assist. But whatever you do, do it quickly!

I don't think I've seen anyone else mention this: Early in the program the Police mentioned marks on the Armco at the apex of the bend. If these were caused by the Zed, it may have been enough to throw the rear of the car out to the right, causing it to mount the footpath, then into that concrete column with the front left of the car which would have thrown it sideways, and then on into the wall.

I also think their estimate of the impact speed was too high... calculating distance over time will give an AVERAGE speed, so the actual impact would have been at a slightly lower speed than the 62kph they estimated.

    Whatever, a vary sad case.

First thing I'm gonna do when I get DREDZ back is to check those cam cover pipes!

Dodgy second hand tyres don't always leave skid marks. Also Parramatta Rd is on my top 3 of worst roads in Sydney. I don't understand why certain demographics enjoy cruising on it.

Me either, i cant handle it in the zed feels like driving on a battlefield, so many potholes and shit... I wonder how many accidents would be prevented if we actually had decent roads in Sydney?

spending money on things that don't buy votes isn't popular for politicians
they prefer to tax you (fines revenue) and then spend it on the flavour of the month

..true.. i think roads are a low priority issue for alot of area's... hell i know ive actually listed roads not to drive on in my area for any car under 130mm clearance LOL.

mi guessing because its the main road to the city and stop over @ maccas lol

There's plenty of other "main roads" out there...oh, hang on, I forgot where that main road leads, that explains the demographic that uses it.

    Sad story

I presume he wasn't a member or someone would have mentioned it. They said he was a student visiting from India on a student visa for a couple of years. Was the car even his? Didn't seem to mention that in the show, thought it could have been one he borrowed and didn't understand the power potential of the zed.

Also, what about the zed they used in the re-enactments (filling up at the servo, driving on the road, etc). Does that zed belong to anyone on the forum and they allowed them to use it for the show?
