my 202 was at 11 psi btw.. well, peak was at 11, it started at 12. :) damn boost drop.

was 186 at 12 psi before rebuild and lightened flywheel so not toooo bad.. though hyperdrive ran the dyno runs in 3rd gear last time around so not sure what effect that would have.

just a shame james didn't come through with the SMICs, would have liked to get a tune before this and before the drags next weekend which will probably be my only chance to go for a run for the whole freaking year.

    Dyno Day

Thanks Ross for putting on a good day, also all those that turned up and made it such a good day. I was suprised with my run result 262.6kw 16psi. I was sure there would be other cars running higher numbers. I was asked,
    WHAT'S IN THAT.
I will give you a run down on what I know, It's a 1991 manual had it for two years Bought it from a car yard, motor was out of the car at the time it had burnt out valve from previous owner so heads were redone along with new rings / bearings.
The motor was rebuilt with all standard parts.
    Standard turbos, Injectors, computer.
Already fitted to the car when I got it; Apexi AVC-Type R boost controler, 3'' dumps with 3'' system from turbos back,
    What I have added.
Nissan H/D clutch, new fuel pump, new nissan AFM, NGK laser Platinum plugs, new coil packs + replace all connector plugs, Remapped Eprom.

The motor was tuned by Aaron Gregory at [In tune Performance] 28 Salpietro St Bibra Lake. Ph 08 94346608
The boost controler is set on 10Psi, for every day drive.
    [A] set at 13Psi.
    set at 16Psi.
During the tune we tested the boost at a number of settings finding 16Psi to be the limit of the injectors, pulled 364.3hp at the wheels.
On 18Psi the motor leaned out and started to ping, running 388.4hp at the wheels, no problem with the standard turbos, if I want to improve I need larger injectors. Iam happy with what it doing for now.

Next sunday 6 May is Drag Wars at the motorplex I will be down their again to see how my times have improved my best to date was 13.56. now i have a good tune hope to get low 13's, hope to see a few Z's their.

I really don't know. :) 202 at 8 psi sounds better but it's hard to tell with our different AFRs!

did you switch out your complete ECU or just the chip?

Cool, hopefully I'll see ya there.. (gotta sort out steering rack) you should break into the 12's pretty easy as long as you have some traction.

I'll be speaking to your tuner too.. seems nobody else is tuning factory ECUs at the moment.

So Aaron in Bibra Lake knew his way around a Z32? What sort of prices did he charge? I'm thinking of having someone with a Dyno close by look at the Z if I can't find any other probs myself and would be nice if they're closer.

I can't imagine he knows Z's if he attempted 18 psi on stockies but as long as he can do the job and will listen to what his customer wants, I don't think it really matters.

    To the Limit

Mike; I asked him to push it to see where the limit is, I'am of the old school some times you have to do this to see what your got, he was just doing what the customer asked, We now know where the fuel / Boost limits are and know whats required if I want to chase more power.
I'am sure you will be pleased with the service if you get him to do your turning.

Yeah, 18psi is about the limit. How much did he charge per hour?

    that's cool, I just meant that I don't mind if they've never tuned a Z before anyway.

There's something I forgot to mention yesterday.. yeah you know you're about at your limit with your fuel but unfortunately you won't get much more out of the stock turbos either so may be a waste going bigger injectors, thus the suggestion on using slightly increased fuel pressure.

I probably won't even go 16 psi with my tune but it's definately tempting. :)

yeah, TordeK's clutch is slipping too, hence why we didn't go. sucks eh? Maybe next time.

    Congrats to all the winners.

I spoke to him today, he charges $160 / hour tuning, reckons an hour or 2 generally.

however! he doesn't tune and burn stock ECUs, he works with aftermarket piggy back and stand alone gear and specialises in haltech.. apparently he didn't actually do any tuning for Eddie, just sorted out the boost controller, base timing and stuff, I think he said it was already tuned via biki rom at speedworks.

bummer eh, might have to go aftermarket.

Thanks Ross for organising such a great day.

I would have liked to get a bit higher power figure than my car did (163.7rwkw) due to the mods just installed, but we will see how much difference the mods make on Wed. Night at the plex.

    Cheers :)

btw, you might wanna drop your boost a little.. I had a feeling 16 was a bit much and found this little nugget to confirm:

"I have also seen alot of post about what the stock turbos will support, on the Dyno we have seen that 1.13 bar is max(Remmember this is the ragged edge) somewhere right above that the stock turbos start to "backspool" which in turn leads to burnt seals eventually. The turbos can take 1.13 bar, but only for short periods of time."

    1.13 bar = 16.385 psi.. I think I'll be tuning for 15 psi :)
